Comment: Who's in charge of this org? Sounds good to me. I haven't looked at too much of the site yet, but am very interested. As a retiree (disabled vet) I am always looking for new info for retiree's (especially female vets). I am the President of my local WAVES National Unit here and am also the Public Relations chairperson for WAVES national. Is it possible to discuss WAVES National on this site? Perhaps pass on information to sea service women? Please let me know. Thanks for the opportunity to respond.

Comment: I really enjoyed your site. More people should know about it. I have been in the Navy for 23 years, Reserve. While a CDR, I was recalled to active duty with the Submarine Force, and had an opportunity to break down some old myths about women in the military. Currently, as a Captain, I continue to find some bases that resent women, resent reservist, and event resent the active duty military in general.
Civilian government workers are some of the worst offenders. Please, publicize your web site to as broad an audience as possible.
Thank you.

Comment: I have recently joined the U.S. Navy. It was a big step for me, because I never imagined myself as the "military type." What won me over was talking to other people who are in the military who told me what it is really like, from Boot Camp all the way to retirement. My impressions had been based on war movies where everyone is either a gunman who gets blown up by the Russians or an Officer who abuses the new recruits. This site is a great resource for people who don't have friends or relatives to develop a realistic view from. I will be either a CTI or a Radioman, both of which pay twice as well and are ten times more interesting than any job I've had yet. I plan to take classes while I'm enlisted and I will use the Navy College Fund to attend a University when I finish my term of service in four years. Because of this, I don't have to wonder if I can continue my education, and I don't have to search for a part-time, short-term job anymore.

I am looking for any air traffic controllers or dental assistandt I may have worked with while stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC, or Ft Benning, GA, from 1964-1970. I need "buddy letters to help me with a VA claim, seems the National records Ctr. lost my records.

We are men and women spanning generations. Some of us were officers; others in the ranks; some were civilians living near military bases. Some of us are parents and spouses of the abused survivors.
For many years we have survived sexual assault, domestic violence, harassment and intimidation by military personnel. We have been afraid for our lives. We have also survived being ignored, harassed, disbelieved and reprised against by those we trusted to bring us justice.
STAMP was formed to bring us together, and to bring our voices forward. WE ARE AN ALL VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION. The work we do is generated by the needs and desires of our members. We assist survivors in filing claims, obtaining attorney referrals, locating sexual trauma counseling VA Outreach Centers, and work with Congress to pass legislation on their behalf. We support and advocate for them every step of the way.
We have documentation from 100 people who have left their names and addresses; 2/3 also told their stories. There are hundreds more that need help. The Veterans Administration has sent out over 400,000 letters to female veterans, advising them of the sexual trauma counseling and other services. Yet, there are many survivors who have not yet been contacted.
Break The Silence On Capitol Hill
In recent months, ever since the Aberdeen sex scandal began, pieces of the truth have begun to emerge, but Congress decided yet again to let the military “take care of the problem.” Some of the civilian members of the investigating commissions are retired generals and admirals. The military pays their retirement, and they often transition into high paying civilian government positions. The potential for bias against the survivors is obvious. Our shared experiences show that the military is the problem, that sexual abuse and misbehavior by commands is tolerated at the highest levels.
CHALLENGING CONGRESS TO:
Hold Hearings. So far, since the Aberdeen sex scandal, Congress has heard only from the military, without hearing from women and men who have survived these assaults over decades. We can attest to, and document, not only the severity of the attacks and devastation they have brought to our lives, but misbehavior on the part of commanders, JAG (legal) officers, military investigative agencies and civilian authorities. We have copies of federal and civil court transcripts, Board of Inquiry reports, and sworn testimony from attorneys representing survivors, documenting the many abuses.
Conduct An Independent Investigation. Some survivors should be appointed to this commission, to bring that special insight that only a survivor can. Military investigators are too inextricably linked to the military to get at the root of the systemic injustice that has damaged our lives. A step in the right direction is offered by asking your US Senators and Representatives to support the following bills:
H.R. 1072 Military Justice and Fairness Act of 1997 Sponsored by Rep.Carolyn Maloney
H.R. 1482 Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 1997 Sponsored by Rep. Carolyn Maloney
VHA Directive 10-95-030
Sexual Trauma Counseling For Women Veterans To Be Extended Indefinitely
H.R. 1072 would establish a civilian commission charged with investigating the conduct of military justice as regards all personnel.
H.R. 1482 would strengthen the current Whistleblower Protection Act, which so far has failed to protect many survivors from the reprisal that has destroyed their careers and health.
VHA Directive 10-95-030 funds sexual trauma counseling from the VA through 1998. If it is not extended indefinitely, we will lose that funding, and many survivors will have no where to turn for help.
Restore Our Civil Right To Sue For Redress. Despite lost careers, years of medical and psychological distress, and other damage caused by the repeated victimization, we’ve been blocked from pursuing damages in a federal court by a misinterpretation of the Feres Doctrine (1950). If the survivor is fortunate enough to find a federal judge to hear the case, it is your tax dollars that pay the US Attorney’s office to defend the military and discredit the survivor. The survivor must bear the cost of hiring a civilian attorney, which often costs tens of thousands of dollars. In addition, what limited options we do have are often blocked by the military’s destruction of records and refusal to release pertinent information, such as transcripts from military Boards of Inquiry. Congress can restore to survivors a basic civil right by clarifying the meaning of the Feres Doctrine and narrowing its scope to battlefield action; and can compel the military to release all pertinent records.
Establish Permanent Civilian Oversight. Our experiences, and our examination of the issue as a whole, make it clear to us that a permanent check on the military’s closed system is necessary. It is Congress’ obligation to investigate how to institutionalize this process and to include survivors in the investigating commissions. Please urge Congress to do so.
Congress shall make no law abridging the right of the people to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.--the First Amendment to the Constitution

Comment: HI!
Great site. It´s interesting to found a site where you can read how other women has done or are doing military service. I did my military service as platoon commander, and is now studying at the university for a civilian exam. In sweden women who decide they want to do military service are doing it at the same premisis as the boys.
Keep up the good work!

Comment: Great Job! As an AF Vet and a mental health professional, I have written a manuscript for women on how to survive in the AF. I'm currently collecting stories, from AF active duty women or vets; these stories would deal with incidents of sexual harassment and or sex discrimination, or a blatant personal injustice. There are many untold stories out there that need to come out; this in turn will assist women in the military as a whole! I would love to hear from you.

Comment: Wonderful ! It is great to at last have something that focuses on the "female",
as all military publications like to call us. I have been a member of the military
for almost 13 years and I have yet to have seen anything that doesn't pertain to the
male gender and we as women have to adjust ourselves in order to make things work out,
clothes, housing, latrines, etc. Now that I am ready to make the rank of Captain, I have found
that many male officer's (especially those who I out rank) appear to take on the attitude,
"aren't you tired of trying to play G.I. Jane and don't you think it is time to go back to
the kitchen?" I love the military and I intend to stick it out. Not all male soldiers are
bad. Matter of fact, several of the male military personnel (those who are confident in themselves
and don't feel threatened by my presence) are more than happy to assist me and work with me in order
to accomplish the mission. I have one last thing to say "GO GIRLS"!
