Comment: Retired Navy and a victim of the USFSPA. If you don't think it will happen to you then think again. All courts all over the country automatically award your ex spouse a percentage of your retired pay no matter what the cause for the divorce. Our male counterparts have been subjected to this for years. Now as we join the military and serve our country we are being duped just as they have been. And you only have to be married one day for a judge to award whatever they want to. The myth of the 10 year rule only applies to DFAS making the payments. Anything less than 10 years and you pay as alimony although it is for life. Yes, that's right even when your ex spouse remarries you still pay for life. Comment: I served for three years, during the Korean War, from 1951-54. I was on duty in Okinawa for almost two years. I worked for the Head Nurse of the hospital in Administration.I was also a singer and dancer with special services. We traveled to Japan and Korea with our show: Get Happy! Remember Judy Garland's song? Forget your troubles, comeon Get Happy" Thank you for a website that makes me feel good about myself. Why can't the military get it right about our service during Korea. They either undercount or don't bother to mention us at all. They say only nurses served. We were about 120,000, and worked in all areas. When recently I tried to correct a low number of 7,500 and only nurses serving on the 50th Anniv Korean War Website, they got huffy and said they couldn't change it.
