I served from 1957 - 1963 and enjoyed the time spent around the military, both as a WAC and later as a military spouse. Took basic at Ft. McClellan, Co. a 5th Platoon. Would love to hear from old friends. I highly recommend any branch of the military for women who aren't sure what they want....it provides you an opportunity to meet interesting people of all ethnic backgrounds, really find out who you are and the travel can be over whelming. Belgium, Italy, Korea and many places in the US. God Bless all those serving now. You probably have more support from the US citizens than any group of military since WWII.

Every year I go down to the Womens Military Memorial in Washington D.C. For those of you who are not familiar with the memorial it is adjacent to Arlington Cemetry.
One of the reasons I go to the memorial (other than the most obvious reason) is to check the computer data bank to see if any of my old comrades have registered with past and current information. Unfortunately, not one of my old basic or Fort Riley buddies are registered. I enjoy the memorial but I always leave with a feeling of regret.
The memorial is a salute to those of us who served, and currently serve, in all branches of the military. It was built for women by women and it needs our support.
The absence of my friends from the data bank indicates to me that many women veterans have not subscribed to this great memorial--which is, indeed a shame.
I urge you all. if you haven't already done so, to contact WIMSA (Women in Military Service for America) Memorial in Washington, D.C., and if you haven't been to the memorial, stop by for a visit. There is a short film documenting the military careers of women and a great gift shop with all sorts of memorabilia for sale at very reasonable prices. In addition, there are touch-sensitive computers one can use to look up former buddies, at no charge.
This memorial needs our support. The many companies and individuals who donated money for the errection of the building evidently thought it well worthwhile. Please consider adding your name to the list of subscribers.
In addition, please remember the All Womens Army Corps Annual Reunion to be held in Branson, Missouri (Aug.14 & 15, 2002.

Comment: I am moving to Hudson Florida in August. I would like to know of any veterans groups that would welcome female veterans. I have run into groups that just want me to be an auxillary member but I am a 12 year USAF/ 100% disabled vet. Would like to meet new friends. I am going to a new town with not a great deal of knowledge of the veteran community. Any help appriciated.
