Comment: Advice to women enlisting....don't forget that you are a woman and not one of the guys. DON'T tell off color jokes and drink with the fellows and then expect them to treat you like a lady. Believe me, they won't. They will respond to the way you behave. Don't put yourself in a situation where you can be taken advantage of or raped as some of you may put it. I worked in facilities with several men and never had one act disrespectfully to me. If one of them started telling off color stories, I excused myself and left the area and I never went out bar hopping with the guys. WHEN YOU ARE IN A JOB WITH ALOT OF MEN, ACT LIKE A LADY AND THEY WILL USUALLY TREAT YOU LIKE ONE. Of course there is always some clod who don't know a lady when he sees one. Advice we were given in Boot was..."when men come in from six months at sea, ANYTHING in a skirt looks beautiful to them, so be on your best behavior." My advice to you is to enjoy your time in the military and see as much as you can see and learn as much as you can learn. This can be a great learning experience for you and how you behave will follow you for the rest of your life.

Comment: Very interesting site. I just happened onto the site today. I was in the Army from 1959 - 1961 - Took basic training at Ft McClellan, AL; and additional training at Ft Sam Houston, TX; and Ft Sill, OK where I worked in the Visitor's Bureau at McNair Hall - I met my future husband at Ft Sill, OK and we have been married for 41-years. Our youngest son (Brian) spent 4-years in the United States Marine Corp., from 1991 - 1995 and saw the world. He spent 2-years aboard the USS Independence Aircraft Carrier, and spent time in the Gulf, during the Gulf War. He visited many ports around the World, including: Hong Kong, Phillipines, Singapore, Thailand, Okinawa, Japan, Bali, Australia and many other Ports. The military is a wonderful experience for any man or woman, and I will always be proud that I had a chance to serve our wonderful country. God Bless the USA

Thanks ladies for doing such a wonderful job in establishing a memorial for those who served so well. It gives me a great feeling in knowing that we played a part whether large or small in setting standards for our country in the time of need.
