Comment: HI; I had some of the best and worse times while serving , I went to places only the FBI and Nasa could be , I met my only Husband ,(long gone )and some friends who still bring a smile when I think of them the harasment and sexual inuendo if you did or didn't In the 70's I was called a brick house more times than I can rember , now years later it still gripes my goard that it was just stais Quo then . Comment: I found a 1959 Bainbridge Boot picture of me and 3 other
"boots" in our gray uniforms, gray garrison caps, black shoes and black ties. My caption reads: "Oct.1959. Filsby, Olinger, (me) and Meyer. We all came in from PA". I remember that Filsby became the Guide-on Bearer for our Company 23 when I became the Drill Team Leader. After Boot Graduation, Filsby's parents offered to take me part way home. Another picture of the same time period says: "Me and Caesar. She never stops laughing!".
Are any of you girls (now women) out there? Does anyone know these names? I sure would like to talk to them.

Comment: Joined USAF in March of 1954. Basic Training Flt 16 at Lackland AFB,TX, school Lowry AFB, Denver,CO where I stood Honor Guard for President Eisenhower and then stationed at Otis AFB, Falmouth, MA where I met my husband of 50 years.
Enjoyed every minute of my time in the Wafs and learned a lot. At the time I went in, you were not allowed to go overseas until you were 21, and had to be discharged when you got pregnant. I'm so happy now that this procedure is no longer in effect and wish everyone the best in their service to our country. Thank God we are at last recognized. Comment: This is a wonderful site which I just stumbled on and will be sure to pass along to other fellow female vets! I just retired 9/03 after 21yrs as an Aviation Structures Mech(AMS). I worked on 4 different aircraft in my career, Have been up and down the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and have been as far north as Iceland and Alaska, and far south as Diego Garcia in the Indian ocean. Im not going to say that my 21 yr experience was all sunny and bright. I joined the Navy when women were just breaking into male dominated areas and women were not yet allowed aboard ship for extended periods of time. I struggled to prove to the men I worked with, and myself, that I was just as capable of doing the job as any of them. I held my own...for 21 yrs. I did have some great times, and have traveled to places I wouldve never been,some great some not so great,if not for the Navy. Ive seen the Navy change over my career, some good, some bad. Its not the same Navy I joined. But I have no regrets, Im proud to have served, and have alot more pride in my country now than 21yrs ago. The places Ive been and the things Ive seen, have made me want to come right back home and appreciate more, the things we Americans have, we take for granted, and that no one else does, especially women! So ladies, those I left to carry on for me..I wish you well, do your best and take pride in what you do. For those of you thinking about it, its not an easy career, take your time in making the decision.There will be rough seas ahead, but it may help you find yourself and prove to yourself what you really are capable of doing. And to those who have left those days behind with me, I commend you, we did a good job, fair winds and following seas.We deserve to be just as proud and recognized as our male counterparts!

I'm looking for somebody too, I just don't know his name... my father. All I know is that he was stationed in Germany (Herzogenaurach, Herzo-Base) until 1979 (as far as I know). Unfortunaly my mother don't remember most of it. I don't know what branch he was in. When I was young she told me his name was Gary, now whe don't remember. She said in 1979 he was 22, could be wrong too. She also said he was blond and had blue eyes, quite handsome. Maybe this isn't right either. He met a german girl, Gabrielle "Gaby" Bartens. She said he left a couple of weeks after they met, and they should've met around February/March. I don't know where else to look. Maybe somebody know something. Please email with the smallest hint. My name is Carmen, I got married to a soldier 2 years ago and we have a adorable son. I'm not looking for my father for payback, money or anything else.
