If anyone can lead me to find how the military and US government came to this policy, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Comment: My mother, Adelaide DeMay, aka Squat or Mickey, served in the WAAC's back in the 40's and was stationed at Daytona Beach in the tent city. I have seen the pictures and heard a little bit about it. I am going to propose a short video documentary to my group at school for one of our projects and would love to hear from anyone in Central Florida, who was stationed on the beach in Daytona that has stories to tell. Unfortunately I have to limit it to people within a limited distance from Daytona because we are college students and we have no funding for this project. I would be interested in photographs anyone might have. I know my mom has some but we are going to have to search for them.

Comment: BASIC TRAINING - FT MCCLELLAN, ALABAMA ~ NOV. 1959 ~ FEB. 1960 - Ladies, remember the good times we had in Basic Training, although it could be difficult at times. Anyone looking for Robbie (Pulliam) Blandina or Wenona (Paschal) Cox ~ I am sorry to report, that both of my dear friends from Basic have passed away from Cancer. Robbie died in Sept. 1998 in Centerline, Michigan; and Wenona died in May 2003 in Paducah, Texas. Gosh! I miss these two dear ladies. We stayed friends since we met in the Army in 1959. We did have a great time in the Military!! God Bless our troops!!

Comment: U.S. ARMY 1959 ~ 1961 - HOW I ENDED UP IN THE ARMY. ONE EVENING IN 1959 MY FRIEND AND I WERE AT A PARTY. SHE SUGGESTED WE JOIN THE AIR FORCE AND GET OUT OF NORTHAMPTON, MASS. WELL, NEVER EVEN THINKING OF JOINING THE MILITARY, I SAID, "LET'S DO IT." WELL, WE WENT TO THE LOCAL RECRUITING STATION IN NORTHAMPTON AROUND LUNCH TIME. THE AIR FORCE RECRUITER WAS "OUT OF LUNCH" BUT, THE ARMY RECRUITER WAS IN, AND CAME OUT TO TALK TO US YOUNG LADIES. WELL, THE REST IS HISTORY. HE HAD US ENLISTED BEFORE WE COULD COUNT TO TEN, AND THAT IS HOW I ENDED UP IN THE ARMY!!! I ALSO SPOKE WITH ANOTHER MILITARY WOMAN THAT SERVED IN THE NAVY. SHE ALSO WAS SUPPOSE TO JOIN THE AIR FORCE, BUT ONCE AGAIN, THE AIR FORCE RECRUITER WAS "OUT TO LUNCH!!"

Comment: I am 17 years old and will turn 18 on May 9th 2004. I graduate May 30th and then I ship out for basic on June 11th to LWood then I train to repair small arms as my occupation. That does not give me much time with my family and that brings me down at times. I feel asthough one minute I can't wait to leave and I am so excited and I know for a fact I can do anything. Then the next minute I get frusterated and confused and I wind up not wanting to leave my family, because I have always been very family oriented, and I feel asthough I am bringing them pain as well as myself. I have a love as well that I cannot seem to part with and it makes it hard for me knowing I have to be away from him for so long because he is to work on an off shore oil rig when I depart so when I come to visit he will hardly be there. I know deep down I can and will do it, yet the fact that I do get brought down still gets to me. I do not know what to expect and I don't even think I made the right choice, when picking what I wanted to do in the military. It felt good just letting that all out and I appreciate being able to do so because of this site and because of the wonderful women that gave me the oppertunity by creating this site. I met a woman that told me of this site at a band concert and I immediatly wanted to come and share my thoughts with all of you wonderful women. I do not regret joining and eventhough I become confused at times I know it will all be okay and god will not let harm or evil come to those that love him. Comment: Excellent site and it is going to take a while to get through all your guestbook entries! I was AF: BMTS 1972, DLIWC for Russian 1972-3, Tech School at Goodfellow 1973, the my assignment to Misawa, Japan Sept 1973-March 1975. There was an overage in my field and the AF was downsizing so I took an early out when it was offered. Misawa has a project underway to identify, locate and reconnect people who served over there: www.usafssmisawa.com. If you are looking for Security Service/AIA people: www.ftva.org is the place to go. Be sure to put assignments and dates in the guest book! Also: www.usaf-locator.com allows you to search by name or AFSC. Follow the links! Seems all the units are conducting similar projects to find their people and there are reunions all over the country! Security Service has been defined as "A tightly knit group of loosely knit people". You know who you are and you know what I mean!
