Hello, I am very interested in going into the navy.**I have talked to a navy recrute and everything and have my physical next week.**I just a a few questions I hope you maybe can answer.**I will be going to bootcamp in chicago, and then entered into medical school.**They can't tell me they will do this and then not can they? I have been through one year of college already and would really like to join the navy but if they are not going to send me to medical school I am basicaly giving up my life!!**I am not all that scared about bootcamp, but I am also not really sure what all goes on in bootcamp.**I am quite athletic so I don't think the physical stuff will bother me much but the mental stuff I am scared will kill me!! You know all you hear are the horror stories so I don't really know how it is!! Also after my time in the navy is up, will I have to go back to school to get a job in a hospital or will the training I get from the navy be all I need?**As you can see I have alot of questions!!**The navy r

Karen...did the recruiter tell you that you would be going to medical school or to Hospital Corpsman School??**Going to medical school in hte navy isnt much different thn in the civilian community other than you do your clinical stuff in a Military Hosp. You have to have your BS and all of your pre med stuff taken before starting medical school.Just be sure your recruiter isnt feeding you a line:) Most of them are**good and dont make any attempts to deceive people in order to meet thier requirmentrs for the month.**Ask questions and maybe even tell the recruiter that you want to meet or talk to someone that has the same kind of job that you are going to have.**Well hope this helps a little. Take care:)**************************** Sherry

Hi,Well, I graduated from bootcamp Sept 4, so maybe I can answer some of your questions. Bootcamp right now is more difficult than it has ever been, but I am a marshmello and I made it through. Physically bootcamp is demanding. You march about 50 or more miles per week, you only run about 5 miles per week, and when I graduated I could only do 25 push-ups so PT isn't that hard.**Yes, mentally bootcamp is difficult. The reason is you are doing things different than ever before, they tell you when to get dressed, eat, talk walk, even how to write. Little details make big trouble, so they teach you how to to do things their way, and you must make sure you do. Before you leave for bootcamp make sure you have the exact school you want in a contract. It sounds as if you want to be a corpsman, so make sure you are signed up for corpsman school in Great Lakes before you go to bootcamp. If you go undesignated, then the chances of you getting what you want are almost zero. I've seen my friends get screwed. The Navy will hand you nothing, so you must make sure everything is in a contract. Trust me, do not go into the Navy unless Corpsman is in your contract...do not let them tell you you can switch later, because you can't. I know. As far as I am concerned, I wish I would have been adamant about the job I wanted because now I am in school in a job field I don't want to do, and I am stuck for two years. You are a valuable resource, and the Navy will bend over backwards to get you to join, stand your ground and do not let them push you around. Also, remember bootcamp is only 10 weeks long. No matter what they throw at you, you can handle it. Besides, I am stationed in San Diego now, and it is so much fun. I have more friends than I know what to do with! If you have more questions, e-mail me and I will be happy to tell you the truth.
