I am a sophmore at Ashland University in Ohio and the cost is to high to keep attending.**So my mom managed to fight to get money for me to attend on more semester(Fall 98) and after that we both don't know.**So I decided to join the Navy in Jan.**I have so many questions!!! I went through ALL the questions and answers but now I am more confused than ever.**1)What field should I join(every time I turn around I find a knew field) 2)On a ship or off 3)birth-control-I read in one of the statements that they issue BC after basic!!**And can you ask for a certain type? Because I cann't stop taking it because I will get VERY sick when that horrible week comes around. 4)Will they still let me join then with my problem? 5) When is they best time to join for bootcamp 6)Do you need money for bootcamp? 7)When do you start getting paychecks 8)Just way to many questions!!!!!**And from reading the statements...the recruiters scare me now.**I don't know if they can truthfully answer all of my questions.**Can somebody please help that has recent experience. Geez!**Slow down!**You're scaring ME!!! =)**************OK, one at a time:**1)What field should I join(every time I turn around I find a knew field)****The "best job" is different for everyone. Think about what you like doing, or would be interested in.**Follow the link below for a VERY brief description of the different ratings.**Make yourself a list of all of them that sound remotely interesting, & you can start narrowing it down from there by getting more info on each one on your list.**Yell if you need help getting more info & I'll point you in the right direction.**2)On a ship or off** :** You may not have a choice.**Expect to go to sea your first tour.**If you slide by, they'll catch ya later.**Once you've decided which jobs you might be interested in, I can let you know (or point you to) their sea/shore rotations. Going to sea is part of the Navy.**Used to be women could slide by without it.**That's really not true anymore.**

......And from reading the statements...the recruiters scare me now.**I don't know if they can truthfully answer all of my questions.**Can somebody please help that has recent experience. Trey.A......This is too bad.**The thing about recruiters is they're people.**There's good ones, and there's bad ones.**If you feel uncomfortable, ask to "see it in writing", or "see the regulations governing program X", or even xerox it.**They want you to join.**They'll find the info for you.**If they won't, ask to talk to their supervisor.**If you want to check out something they say, post it here (or email me directly; I don't check this board every week), & I'd be happy to point you to the guidance around the program or question.

So I decided to join the Navy in Jan.**I have so many questions!!! 8)Just way to many questions!!!!!**.........**As a college student, you're used to studying.**I've got a site for ya to visit below, but you'll have to be resourcefull in finding info on it, as there's a LOT.**It's the Bureau of Naval Personnel, & has "it all" in writing.**Of interest may be the "periodicals" section, and download the Jul-Sep '98 (or any issue, actually) of LINK magazine.**It's a quarterly publication for enlisted Navy people that deals with their careers, advancement, programs, etc.**Also try the "search" function, or the "Services" section to get tons of info on about anything you can think of.**Give 'er a whirl!

:**paychecks.......... and about your pay.**The link below will take you to the 1998 pay chart.**It's a grid broken down by years of service and paygrade.**E-1's under 4 months only make $856.80 a month, but it goes up from there.**And with a couple years of college under your belt, I suspect you'll be advanced to E-2 or E-3 after bootcamp.**Be sure and ask about that.**Also on the paychart you'll notice the "0-1" column.**That's an Ensign, the lowest paygrade for officers.**That's the pay you'll start off at if you go with the ROTC program.****** Hope this answers a few of your questions.**Good luck!!Tracy
