Leaving in Sept for basic and going into aecf. I understand that it can be long training. (1-2 years) Are the days as long as in basic training? or is it more like a regular workday; meaning 8-9 hours. How much homework do you have outside of class and how many other duties are you responsible for outside of your training? I'm going and can hardly wait but i'd still like to have an idea of what im in for!would love to hear from anyone in this rate.

I can tell you that the days are long and hard. There are many hours of homework worse than any you ever had in high school. I can tell you that because I was there. I became a Fire Controllman. When I went through in 96 the course was 24 weeks for AECF. What it is now, I don't know. They were in the process of changing it to only 6 weeks. I would advise you that if you want excellent grades that you do nothing but study and stay away from the guys. That is where I got into trouble. Don't drink or you will be seeing a certain chief if you are underage. Your days at school start at about 0600 to either 1300 or 1500 depending on the day. Depending on the subject, will depend on what kind of homework that you have and who the teacher is. You will have several teachers. You will be in a duty section that has to clean the place you live every so many days and on some full weekends hence you will have to stay up late to do your homework because they don't care about that. Diligence is what they are teaching you. And don't spend all you money at the club or at McDonald's.

Hey while I work outside of the advanced electronics rate, a few of my friends are et's and At's the days after bootcamp while not as long can be more taxing, as all the homework you will have. duties outside of training, standing watches, if your in between schools, you could go on mess duty. it will be long and strenous, but the advancement rat is higher, and the outside job market is very high. especially for a fiberoptic tech.

It was tough and they told us that if it was possible to grasp everything they tossed at us in the 35 weeks or whatever it was, it would be the equivalent of a Jr. degree in Electrical Engineering. But of course it would have been impossible for anyone but a genius to have grasped it all.
