:To Malisa, A lot of factors apply to where both you and your family do end up at after your basic training and possibly your rate training school.. Yes, I will admit that I did enjoy Pensacola when I was stationed there. The base is people freindly, heck it has to, just to survive. The cost of living is not cheap, but not overpriced either. Any place you go should have assorted jobs available, the best bet would to have your spouse post their resume on the internet. Unfortunetly, Pensacola does have it's bad area and that still seems to be the cervantes road area. Best thing to do, would be write to the town hall for any and all information on the place. Just be prepared to pick some other alternate places that you would like to go as a back up and learn about them as well. Be prepared, the Navy is a unique set up and situation. It is also to a certain degree of how you yourself make it. Good luck. hi im going to enlist and i thought that pensacola would be a base of my

Malissa:
I hate to disappoint you, but you cannot just pick a base to be stationed. While you are in training during and/or after boot camp (depending on whether or not you have a guaranteed "A" school) , you fill out what is referred to as a "Dream Sheet" where you list where you would like to be stationed. It is called a dream sheet for a reason, you are just dreaming.
Now, the needs of the Navy definitely outweigh your own desires and if there are only billets open for your job and gender in say, Guam, then, that is where you will go. Sometimes you will have a choice depending how high in your training you graduate or if your detailer has more than one billet available.
If your recruiter is telling you that you can just decide where to live, he/she is lying. You might get a choice of two or three duty stations, only depending on where the Navy needs you, not just where YOU decided you want to live.
