I'm really interested in getting a NROTC scholarship to help me pay for college.I have the test scores and the grades...but I'm a little skeptical of the summers in between the school years...I've been doing research on the program but would really appreciate some prospectives or even stories from someone whose a woman and has already been through those summers of training...The part that I think scares me the most is the Marine Corps training on that first summer in between the freshman and sophmore years...Is it really all that bad? What were the other summers like? Especially the next one where u serve as an enlisted personnel? ANY feedback would greatly appreciated!

Thanku

Jasmine, I just finished my freshman year in ROTC. CORTRAMID, or the training after your freshman year is actually a lot of fun. You stay on a base for a month in BEQ's ours were really nice. Marine week isn't bad because they wanna show you all the cool things about being a Marine so you won't be run to death or anything like that. They yelled at us like the first day, but after that they were pretty cool. We shot alot of guns, repelled off of walls, went patrolling, and stormed a beach. It sounds like a lot, but they went through great lengths to make sure that we were safe and any time that you don't feel safe or feel like you're being endangered you don't have to go through with the activity--you can take whats called a Training Time Out. Look at Marine week as an opportunity and a unique experience. Most of what you do during Marine week is what infantry people do and since women aren't allowed in infantry, after Marine week you'll never get a chance to do those things again. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions. Hope this helps:)
