Hello,
I am a 29yr.old female considering enlisting in the navy. I have alot of concerns. First of all I am a mom 3 times over and am currently married to a great guy who thinks I should "Go For IT !" We have a very strong marriage and no concerns about the time I may have to spend away from family. We are prepared to do whatever it takes in that respect. My concerns are with the fact that the recruiter said i have to sign over gardianship of my kids. The recruiter was very vague on this and it left me with alot of questions. Will someone please explain this to me fully. Also, I was told by the recruiter that as soon as i am asigned to a duty station (i think thats what it is called) then they will move my family there. Is this true? Do they pay for the relocation or do you ? I really think my recruiter has been up front with me, he just isnt volunteering anything extra. I also have a complex from the bad stories i have heard that older enlistee's have a hard go of it. Is this true too ? I dont really think it is. Any information offered is very appriciated and desired.
Thank You Very Much,
Shelly King

Hi Shelly. I thought that signing over guardianship was something that only single moms had to worry about...does your recruiter know that you are married? You should be able to sign guardianship over to your husband, or if they want someone outside of your household, grandparents or other relatives. If this seems a bit much, keep in mind that it's only for the length of your BT and AIT, not for life. It's just a formality for parents because there's always that chance of deployment at a moment's notice. The Navy will pay to relocate your family to your duty station, but not until after you have completed your basic and your AIT (job training). Recruiters are very helpful, but as you've discovered, sometimes you have to ask very specific questions in order to get detailed answers. They don't mind if you walk in with a list of questions, so think about everything you want to know and jot 'em down. If it's easier for you, there are also recruiters on-line who will give you the most current info via email. Hope this helps a bit,
