To all:

Are there any ppl here in the Navy right now who entered the AE/CF? I'm more interested in AE, personally...so if anyone has any experience actually *doing* that job in the Navy right now, I'd really like to talk! If you have that job and would like to help me out, please respond and we can exchange emails. Thanks!

I am an E-5 in the Navy that also joined the AECF. Let me tell you what you will find in the Navy. After you go to basic training you will go to Great Lakes for your first two schools. Things may have changed since I joined four years ago but the first school you will go to is called Tech Core. It is there you will learn basic electronics. You will then choose whether you want to be an ET (electronics technician) or FC (fire controlman). So, your next school will be ET or FC 'A' school. When you get close to graduating your 'A' school you will choose orders to 'C' school. It is possible that you may have a long list to choose from or a short list. It depends on what is available at the time. But, let me tell you, the people that have the better grade average usually get to choose orders first. Now, here is the confusing part. There are FC's on my ship that work strictly with computers. There are also FC's that fire the weapons as well as work on the Radars that are part of their weapons systems. Let me also tell you that there are more shore billets for ET's. I am going to shore duty soon and I am going to have to take a physical security billet because I am an FC that works on the MK86 fire control system. I hope this information has helped you somewhat. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions and I will try to help.
