I am currently an AF Reserve with prior active duty behind me. I am also a single parent. (Divorce is almost final Yeah) Well the AirForce won't allow single parents in the active duty world regardless of being prior Active. Does anyone know if I can join the Navy. I am also going to be 29 in a few months.. The Navy was one of my choices way back when I first enlisted but being an AirForce brat I thought it was my better choice at the time. I am really interested in the Navy and just wondering if its possible to join Active Duty Navy being 29 and a single parent? Does anyone know or can give advice??

Many years ago, I served active duty in the Navy. Some time later, I got married and had a son. I was able to enlist into the Navy reserves without a problem. Once we divorced ,I decided that I needed a change of venue (we were both stationed at the same base). I transferred into the CA Army National Guard without a problem. I just had to give a family member "temporary custody /power of attorney" in the event of my departure. I served on active duty with alot of single mothers (prior their enlistment). So, I do not believe that the Navyy Reserves will have a problem. Good luck !!!! After being in the Navy, I found it difficult to adjust to the Army's way of life. So, be sure to find out as much as you can about both branches. I think that the age limit (to enter) is 34. I was thinking of reenlisting at the age of 31 and it was not a problem. Also, the Navy has special programs for reservist if your civilian job is considered as a speciality. It depends on the job and the amount of years and experience.

i am 19 years old and i am also a single mother. you can join any branch that you want to, but it will have to be done through court. i have never been married so basically i had to get the father to sign some papers giving joint custody to me, him, and my aunt and uncle. it was enough to get in. i have no idea how it works since you where married. the child may just have to go and live with their mother until you get to your permanent duty station. hope this helps you and good luck in the Navy. If you get stationed in Norfolk on the Enterprise then look me up =).

I'm 28 yours old and was 25 when I enlisted in the Marine Corps. I had a 2 year old son at the time but, since I was married has no trouble enlisting. There was one problem. My husband wasn't my son's father. My son's real father sucessfully petitioned for and eventually won custody of my son, detroying my career in the process. Be careful. I was too trusting and now my son calls someone else "Mommy"
