Hi- I was wondering about the 30 days paid vacation in the Navy. Do you have much control over when that vacation time is spent? Can you take a few days here, a few days there, or does it have to be lumped together in weeks? How far in advance do you need to request a vacation, and who do you request it to? How likely (or unlikely) is it that I'll get to be home for holidays, like Christmas? Will I get any discounts on travel? I know that this is a lot of questions but any answers would help. Thanks!

: April vaction time (or leave) can be taken in any amount of time depending on how much leave you have on the books. You put in a request chit that has to be signed by your chain of command. If you wanted to take leave tomarrow and you could walk your chit through and get it signed off by all the right parties you could go on leave tomarrow.

As for holiday leave it is usually first come first served since everyone wants to take holiday leave at the same time. Only so many people can be away from a command at a given time. Different companies offer Military discounts or you might be able to hop on a MAC flight (Military Airlift Command). The MAC flight route can be a great deal or a bust. If they take you all the way to where you want to go its great. I got bumped in Korea one time and really had to scramble to get to where I was going. It pays to put in your request and plan well in advance
