I am a 24 year old enlistee, signed up for 5 years. I am wondering about having a child during my enlistment period. I will be 29 when my time is up, and older if I choose to reinlist. I'm wondering if there are any better or worse times to get pregnant during an enlistment. I have always wanted children, and I don't want to wait till I'm 30 to start trying. I also do not want to jeopardize my navy career. I know there are no easy answers, but any advice from those who've been there would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I understand your concerns. I joined the Navy when I was 22 and didn't have my first child until I was 30. I don't think there is ever and inopportune time to become pregnant. As long as you plan for that fact. I don't feel that either of my pregnancies affected my carrer for the good or the bad. I was lucky that I was healthy all the way through both pregnancies. It also didn't affect my job. I am an Electronic Technician and was able to carry out my duties without any problems. You are right there are no easy answers but do what you feel is right for you. Any other questions feel free to email me.

: appreciated. Thank you. I was 23 when I enlisted and am going to be 30 in November. My daughter will be 2 in October. I advise having a baby on SHORE DUTY!!! And even then, you will have to listen to the men whining! This baby will forever change your life. I will roll to shore duty again because my husband is due to go to Sea duty. But, after 36 months I will have to go to sea and he will roll to shore. I have decided to get out when that time comes. My husband has more time in and will achieve a retirement check. I couldn't bear to leave my girl for cruise!
