I have a question about Navy jobs. I'm not real sure how it goes. I know the ASVAB score determines what jobs you qualify for. Would I get to pick what job I want? If I pick my job, can they change it? I'm concerned about joining and ending up with a job I don't want.

Hi Sharon, it's Kate again! The way it works is that you write the ASVAB and the higher your score, the more jobs you can pick from. You will give them your top choices in order of preference and they will try to offer you one of them. What you get depends on a few things, for example if there are any openings for that MOS and how many other people want it (if they think another applicant is better suited, they might give that person first dibs). If the one you really want isn't available, you have the option of delaying your enlistment until it is. Your recruiter should have an up-to-date list of what is open and what is projected to open up down the road. Sometimes it's worth waiting if you know that your first choice will be available in a few months...better than for settling on something else just for the sake of getting started, even though the wait can be a huge drag.
