I have found my great grandfather's WW1 letters. My great grandfather mentioned a friends wife had joined the navy. She was stationed in Washington, but I am not sure as to what her role was. It looks like it says she was "a you- woman." But it doesn't sound quite right nor does the 'you' look like the normal way he writes 'you.' I am seeking either conformation that it is correct or if it is wrong, then what is the coorect wording. I thank you all for your help in this matter. Respectfully, Karen Kraft

Hi Karen, this is just a guess but by you-woman he may have meant a female yeoman. A yeoman is a naval petty officer assigned to clerical duties. Hope that helps, Emma
