GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS-

LAST MONDAY MY RECRIUTER SENT ME OFF TO MEPS TO TAKE MY ASVAB AND THE BASIC PHYSICAL. I HADN'T INTENDED ON SWEARING IN AND BEING ELIGIBLE TO CHOOSE MY JOB THAT DAY, DUE TO AN ORTHOPEDIC CONSULT WE ALREADY NEW I'D BE HIT WITH. SOMEHOW, EVERYTHING WENT INCREDIBLY SMOOTH, AND THE PAPERWORK WAS RUSHED THROUGH- IN FACT, I AM SCHEDULED TO LEAVE FOR BOOT CAMP NOVEMBER 3. I SCORED A 91 ON MY ASVAB. I HAVE AN INTEREST IN A JOB AFFILIATED WITH COMPUTERS, FOR THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF HAVING THAT TRAINING WHEN I LEAVE THE MILITARY, YET AM NOT CERTAIN IF I HAVE CHOSEN WELL. THE JOB I WAS OFFERED WAS SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF AN ADVANCED ELECTRONICS/COMPUTER TECH. I REALLY NEED TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE WHO CAN GIVE ME A BIT OF BACKGROUND ON (I KNOW THIS SOUNDS A BIT GOOFY) WHO I AM/WHAT I AM/ AND WHAT, IN PARTICULAR, I SHALL BE DOING. IT'S A BIT LATE FOR ME TO BAWL OVER SPILLED MILK, FOR I HAVE ALREADY SIGNED THE PAPERS, BUT I'D LIKE TO BE AS BEST PREPARED AS POSSIBLE.

IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME SOME 'HEADS UP', AND SOME GOOD SOLID ADVISE, PLEASE DO SO!- I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE EVERY BIT.

Hi Sarah! COngratulations on your enlistment! I hate to say I have no specific information on your job. But...what I found very helpful was going to the library. There are books out there that describe, in detail, military jobs. They also often give civilian counterparts. That seems to be a concern of your's. I found all kinds of informative books by looking up "ASVAB" in the library's computer system. Good luck!

Congrats on ending up with one of the best fields the navy has to offer. I too joined up for the AECF almost 4 years ago. Basicly you have 2 options ET or FC. That is Electronics Technician (this route I highly recommend) or Fire Control Technician. You will be going to Tech Core school after boot camp. During Tech Core you will choose or be assigned which A school you will be going to (ET or FC) This will be decided by Class Standing. Tech Core is what used to be calles B double E in the olden days. You get you fill of Basic Electronics from AC/DC, Solid State, Power Supplys, Amps, Digital Theory, ect... If you go the ET route you wil go either towards Communications or Radar. Yet another choice. When I went through you received both. They split the school to get more techs out in the fleet. If you go FC you will learn about the Weapons Systems like missles ( Tomahawk, RAM) and CIWS. You will learn about Radars and much much more. I hope this helps you and if you have any more questions respond to my e-mail wrencl@usspearlharbor.navy.mil
