I need information concerning women in the Marine Corps. Has the Marinesattitude toward women improved or worsened. Does the Marine Corps foster asense of dependence in female spouses?**Why is it that the Marines haveonly 62% of jobs open to women and every other service has more.**Is therate of domestic violence in the Marines higher than in other services? How are active duty female marines treated in the workplace?**Any infowould be great.**Email is gretcris@gibralter.com.

I am an active duty Marine as well as a Marine spouse.**I have been in the Marine Corps for about four and a half years.**I think the Marine Corps is slowly changing it's attitude towards women.**They are taking the longest because they have a long standing tradition of being a "mens club" and I don't think they can be blamed.**I feel it is important for the Marine Corps to accept women, and that is what they are doing.**Just recently, women began going**to MCT (MArine Combat Training), women are now also allowed on ship.**As you know, the Marine Corps is the smallest branch of the service, they are therefore the most disposable.**The Marine Corps is here today because they are the elite branch of service.**They are here today because the man and women of america want them here.**I f the Marine Corps makes changes too rapidly, they risk loosing the very thing that is keeping them in buisness today, and that is the support of the people.**In my four plus years in the Marines, I have never had any serious problems in the work place.**I have not been treated like a WM, I have been treated like a Marine.**I feel that it is important for women comming into the Marine Corps to realize that they are entering a mans world.**It is the women who should expect to adapt to the corps and with that, the corps will eventually ada[t to women.**The only thing I can say about women int he Marine Corps is that if they want to be treated like Marines and not WM's then they have to carry themselves with the utmost professionalism, females are a minority and minorities are heavily scrutinized.**The only way to change this is for todays Female Marines to stand out amongst their peers and begin earning respect as Marines so that tomorrows Female Marines don't have the same problems some experience today. One way I do belive the Marine Corps needs to change is in the way it treats Marine wives.**They are treated as if they cannot fucntion with out their counterpart, and especially in todays society that is not true.**I have been to spouse meetings, and I feel that the spouses are talked down to.**The Marine Corps needs to recognize that spouses of todat do more that cook, clean and take care of the kids.**They have morre interests than shopping and baking and I feel that spouse support groups should change to reflect the change in times.
