Now that more women are joining the marines and that the are no undergoing full-combat training, does the USMC have plans to open infantry positions to women?**It appears that this is likely to happen and I think that it is about time.**To all of you women out there, strive for your dreams.**A lot of guys support your rights to fight in combat!

So you know.**The guys would like the ladies to take all of the Infantry, Artillery, and Armor jobs you like.**Many of us can't get jobs in Legal, Medical, MI, etc. cause the US Military gives preference to ladies in thos MOSs since you can't be in combat arms.**The good news for guys, the more ladies on long floats, filling foxholes, sleeping in tanks, freezing on guard duty, working until they drop the more office, hospital, field station jobs available for men.**There are a whole lot of us waiting to swap jobs!**A very tired soldier.

Having served inVietnam and woundes twice, there is NO WAY any Woman Marine could stand up to the harship and stress of a combat situation. For all of you out there who have a thought about this, I can tell you right now that none of you have ever had the "opportunity" to serve in combat day after day. There were some men, tough men, who had a hard time putting up with it.You may think you want to, some Americans may think they want it, but when Suzy comes home in a body bag, everyone who pushed for it will no longer to be able to be found.

**** Hi.**My name is Sarah, and I'm a grade 8 student from Toronto.**** Let me say first that I respect your combat experience.**Through voulunteer work I know several others that served in 'Nam and other conflicts, and still shudder at some of their stories.**To have survived through that experience, and two combat injuries, means you are one tough person - both physically and mentally.**** I have to dissagree, however, that women can't handle this type of experience.**I will freely admit that I do not personally know any female who has lived through _exactly_ what you have, but I think that's part of the point of this topic - women in general haven't been given the chance to live through it.**Back to my origional point, however, I do know a few women who have very stressful, life or death type jobs that they handle admirably.**** For example, my friend Joanna is a firefighter.**As the saying goes, she's running into burning buildings when everyone else is running out**: ).**She has saved countless lives and willingly put her own life on the line to save people who she doesn't even know.**She has asessed dangerous situations and quickly determined a plan which would bring her, her friends, and the innocent folks at risk out of the situation safely.**She has been burned and injured plenty of times, but has always toughed it out and completed the job before even letting a paramedic touch her.**She is smart, dedicated, and tough.**Why, I ask you, would she not qualify as "tough enough" to be a marine?**** This is just one example, and I can give more.**I have two female friends who are police officers, and one who is an emergency surgeon.**I know this may sound a bit like "hero worship", because I'm a 14 year old kid, but dammit these women seem tough enough to me - both mentaly and physically - to be a marine or other military personel.**** Finally, I take exception to the notion that people would find it difficult to deal with "Suzy" coming home in a body bag.**Do they find it easy when it's "John", instead?**It would be a very shallow person who could "take" seeing anyone, male or female, come home in a body bag without shedding a single tear.**Nobody wants to see anyone come home in a body bag, no matter what their gender may be.**** Am I totally out to lunch on this one, or what?**Thanks for listening anyways.**** Sarah.**: )

I have extreme respect for you and your military experience, however I disagree with your outlook on female Marines.**First of all it can not be said that NO female Marine could stand up to the hardship and stress of a combat situation and that line of thinking is narrow and ignorant.**It is also true that a lot of tough men could not handle the stresses of Vietnam and they returned home to be very disturbed individuals, I am guessing from your attitude that this is acceptable since they are men.**There are many women out there that would have the same problems, but there are also women who would hold up just fine.**It is a proven fact that women are better under pressure and they have a greater tolerance for pain.**If people would stop stereotyping women, they would have the chance to prove this is true.**I have met a lot of men that can't handle the sight of blood much less seeing their best friend get killed next to them, but they are afforded the opportunity to prove themselves.**It is also wrong to compare any combat we will see today to that in Vietnam.**Vietnam will not happen again, America won't let it and neither will technology. There is a new series of trainning out now called urban warrior introducing the new era of warfighting.**It is wrong to compare the action of Vietnam to that of the future.**It is also wrong to think that the loss of a male life is any more horrifying than that of a female.**We are all created equal and we all have people that love and care about us.**The loss of any life male or female is tragic and I belive will be grieved.: Having served inVietnam and woundes twice, there is NO WAY any Woman Marine could stand up to the harship and stress of a combat situation. For all of you out there who have a thought about this, I can tell you right now that none of you have ever had the "opportunity" to serve in combat day after day. Maybe it's just that Im in 8th grade too but to those first 2 men who posted "Can you say StereoTyping Chauvinist Pig? I knew you could" Frankly women have stood up too a helluva lot more without breaking a sweat that would have left most men wetting their pants. Do yourself a favor guys at least pretend to be slightly intelligent. Don't think just because we don't have a hose we can't handle the fire.

putting in her 2 cents,

Your average civvy jane
