I'd like to pass on a tip that many of you already know, but some might not:Search engines, such as AltaVista, Yahoo, etc., themselves can be great free resources in locating someone.****They pick up every word and name on every page they 'spider' when registering a web page.** To search for a name, put it in quotes, i.e.: "John Smith".****According to a recent test reported on a major computer web site, AltaVista is by far the best, having spidered approximately 60% of the 250 million web pages now on the internet; then come HotBot and InfoSeek.** Among many other types of web pages published are: local arrest records for some communities and law enforcement agencies, recent obituaries, newspaper articles, lists of child molesters in some states, personal genealogy pages, etc.****In the last month I've found the following, whom I could not findanywhere else, through AltaVista (which I now check first and is my'Start Page' when I go onto the internet): a 'lost friend' mentioned in a science article on physics; a lady listed on an obit from the tiny town of Hale Center, Texas; an attorney who left the state owing me money, mentioned in a newspaper article in NM; and (my favorite) a lady on the 'favorite customers list' for an ice cream parlor...If you find this helpful, or have advise on how this can work evenbetter, please drop me an email.MAXMax Whittington InvestigationsBeaverton (Portland), OregonPhone & Fax: 503-644-6678http://www.inetarena.com/~mwi
