: I am interested in doing something medical in the corp but I also am dealing with not a very supportive spouse and 2 children to think about, will they send you to school to be a physician if you just want to be a reservist or do you have to go in full time? Please contact me and let me know, I am 23 and need to make some qiuck decisions.****I commend you for wanting to take up a profession which both helps and serves the Corps and the welfare of others, but I feel you are looking in the wrong direction to start. The Corps basically has no medical personel as a primary field.Being a branch of the naval Service, almost all medical people, nurses, and so forth whom help and treat the Marines, are all NAVY personel. The NAVY could indeed provide you the training and experience you are looking for, but I am not familiar with their requirements for qualifications for such, obligations, or any known promises to keep you in that field or a specific location. You should check with a NAVY recruiter, but to be sure of the story you get... I highly recommend you contact more than one, to see if their stories and facts match. In turn... I doubt that they could promise you a location or job to be with the Corps or work with them, once in the medical field. In turn... I would also consider going in with the minimum time obligations until you see if you actually like it.**Sometimes our dreams are not all what they appear to be, when they come true.**Disappointment is hard, but not as hard as being stuck in a place or job that you do not like or cause you major problems at home.Last.. If you are married and have children... I highly recommend you consider the affect such a move will make on them as well as yourself.Losing a family is not always worth getting a new job or career. If it is something you really want to do... get the true facts about the move, and talk it over with your husband and kids.Try to get them to see it your way or at least understand. But of course.. it does not hurt to try to make them understand your needs and opinion too.Don't let your age rush you into making a decision too fast. This type of obligation (if becomes a mistake, would not be easy, if at all, to reverse.)Oh... and keep your mind open to your family's views. If you decide this is not the route to go... there are always other ways to get into that field or profession that you want.Good luck.. Wish you and your family the Best.
