my daughter just joined MCJROTC at H.S.She has very thick, heavy, straight silky red hair. She also plays basketball and keeps it at shoulderlength so she can tie it up easily. The day she was issued her utilities, her instructor took a hold of it so they could fit her cover properly and told her , she couldn't wear a scrunchee, rubber band or beret..and whatever she did use..he didn't want to be able to see it.**Cutting it is out of the question. How do theladies in the Corps do their hair? Are there any pamphlets on hair care?

I**use hair pins and a rubber band that is a dark color. The rubber band wont show once the hair has been twisted up and the hair pins wont either. Another way is a french braid with the end tucked under.. If you need any other adivise feel free to email me.Liz

Hello.**I spent 6 years active duty in the Marine Corps.**While in uniform, a female Marine's hair may not go below the collar of her uniform.**I wore my hair up in a bun (like Liz).**In fact, I'm a paralegal now and still wear my hair up in a bun.**After I dry my hair in the a.m., I just bend over, comb all my hair into my hand and just twist, until I have a bun on top of my head.**The bun will either need to be under the cover (the cover is her hat), or at the base of her neck.**I found under the cover the easiest.**And remember, nothing can show - no pins, no rubber bands or anything.**The Marines have a very high standard in all things including their dress code.**Good luck to your daughter.**Semper Fi.: my daughter just joined MCJROTC at H.S.She has very thick, heavy, straight silky red hair. She also plays basketball and keeps it at shoulderlength so she can tie it up easily. How do theladies in the Corps do their hair? Are there any pamphlets on hair care?I am currently in the Marine Corps, and yes it is difficult having long hair and keeping it up, My hair is also thick and wavy and is also waist length.**I cant do anything with it when it is dry, since it curls so much and with any humidity it starts to frizz.**The only option I have without cutting it off is to braid it starting at the nape and then twist it into a tight bun almost at the nape of my neck. It makes it easier since my hair is so long and thick than trying to get it under my cover.**I have medium to dark brown hair so I use Black rubberbands and black bobby pins, which are easily concealed because of the color alone.**I tuck the end of the braid after wrapping into a bun into the center of the bun (underneath), then use the bobby pins to secure it.**It always amazes my Platoon Sgts or Staff NCO's how long my hair actually is when I let it down. Most of them swear I have extensions or something. (Smile)
