You might want to post your question on the Canadian Forces message board.**Here, women are allowed anywhere in the military (except submarines), including combat.**You might be able to find some people who are in that situation.**Good luck with your research!

(deleted previous msg/same topic)HAVING SERVED IN THE MARINE CORPS INFANTRY ON THE FRONT LINE IN COMBAT, I WOULD NOT WANT MY DAUGHTERS NOR ANY FEMALE RELATIVE TO SUFFER THAT EXPERIENCE.IT IS NOT FANTASY WORLD, BUT DEATH,DESTRUCTION,MAYHEM,BLOOD, GUTS,BRAINS AND SHEER TERROR. LADIES, PLEASE DON'T PUSH THIS.IT IS NOT ROMANTIC,ADVENTUROUS,EQUALIZING NOR EVEN INTERESTING.WAR IS EQUAL IN THAT IT CAN AND WILL KILL ANYONE REGARDLESS OF SEX.PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE BODY BAG BUSINESS. YOU DESERVE BETTER. DOUG BELL LTCOL USMC RETIRED.SIR,** I certainly respect your opinion, LTC Bell, and thank you for being polite to us, considering our sensibilities, and calling us "ladies". I also appreciate your accurate depiction of combat for what it truly is, to the point.**There is no fantasy or mystic in the horror of combat and war.** But, you are sorely mistaken about the frailty of women and their inability to function under such horrific circumstances.**History tells us they have and why it is denied

In response to LtCol. Doug Bell, USMC.**Sir, I respect your experiences and opinion on women in combat.**However, as a female sergeant who has served as a radio operator in all-male, artillery units for the past 3 years, I beg to differ.**I do not doubt that combat is not a "fantasy world, but death, destruction, mayhem, blood, guts" etc.**What I disagree with, is the assumption that your opinion engenders regarding women in combat.**You clearly stated that you, personally, would not want your daughters or female relatives to experience the horror of combat.**It is such opinions that lead many to believe that they have the right to choose for ME whether or not I should be in combat.**This is a choice that should be mine to make.**It should not be yours, or Congress', or anyone else's.**Like so many women who have gone before me, I choose to make a decision for myslef to enter into the "body bag business".**While it may seem a leap of logic to some, I compare this to years gone by when women were first allowed to serve in the Corps.**Women, then, were told it wasn't their business to be in the armed forces.**Many women, however, chose to ignore the opinion of the majority and make the decision to join the Marine Corps for themselves.I realize that women in combat is an issue that we as a society will grapple with well into the next century.**Like so many issues regarding women in the armed forces, it will not be easily solved, nor will the transition, when it occurs, be a smooth one.**In the interim, I ask only that you and others who share your opinion remember that it remains my decision to serve our country as a Marine.**It follows, then, that it should be my decision to put myself in peril and serve our country in combat.Respectfully,Sgt. Megan Crandall

well doug wrote "THAT EXPERIENCE.IT IS NOT FANTASY WORLD, BUT DEATH,DESTRUCTION,MAYHEM,BLOOD, GUTS,BRAINS AND SHEER TERROR." and well thanks for putting it nicer than some posts doug but we dont realy expect that (talking for myself again) and yeah i probly dont know what im saying but I'll post anyways . :) We expect to kill be killed and take as many bad guys to hell with us as we can. I don't have dreams of grandour about the battlefield, but (it must be the southern fighting blood) I think if guys get to die for our country why can't women. oh yes doug we all want to go out there and play super woman and save the day. I think not, basicly I'll join the marines 'cause I figure i can't do anything with my life and I'll probly piss off the wrong person one day and get killed anyway, might as well lose it to serve my country ya know. okay that attitude is probly not the one of lots of female marines but I never did think like the crowd anyways so whatever if the country asks "okay who wants to die for your country" I'll be the one waving both hands in the air jumping up and down and saying "me!me!me!me!me!" And I do want to be serious for a moment and thank all those that DO risk their lives everyday to serve their country
just putting in my 2 cents,
your ( not so)average civy jane

I am a 16 year old girl and i have considered going into the military for a long time. however my dad who was in the army says women are not allowed to fight alongside men in combat. Is it true that women cannot fight in combat during war? please let me know im very curious.
