Just wanted to drop a line to say that you guys are the greatest. So supportive. Nat, I'm 24, 25 in Feb. Yep I'll have a b-day on P.I. I'm so excited about going that I'm just spitting nails. Is anyone going to cut their hair?? I have mid-back length hair and I've tried pinning it up as I'm going to for the uniform code, but it just doesn't want to stay!! I'm thinking serious haircut. Especially after I read the post on the one girl's mildewing. Eeeewwww!!! I'm so for the buddy system! I'll be the first one there cheering you girls on!! That's how I know I'll make it. You know, boot camp has not scared me yet. It was that damn physical. Now that I'm through that it's downhill ( I wish :P) the rest of the way! Write me often!!!

Semper Fideles!!! And then some more!!!!! Ooh Rah!!

Holly,

I did cut my hair a few months back. It was an above the shoulder bob before, but too short to put up & stay easily. To tell you the truth, if it wouldn't look stupid, I'd shave my head. In a minute. I hate doing my hair and I don't want to be wasting time on stuff like that.

Short is not necesssarily the "cutest" cut for me, but I'm not going to care a whit what you WM recruits think of my hair! ;-) LOL

They say not to cut it, they want WM recruits to be ladies...but I can't stand my mop in civilian life anyway! If you're good at getting the coif taken care of quickly you might consider keeping it....Semper Fidelis!

Holly,

You rock! Hilarious. The physical and damn pee-in-cup stuff is almost harder to face than million mile night humps! I have mid-length layered hair and I haven't had it long since high school, so it turns out I had my hair short right up until I started thinking I belong in the military. That coicided with a new desire, completely unrelated, to see just how long and fluffy my hair can get if I stop whacking it! I'm very happy with short cuts, I've had them all, and also consider the difficulty and headache that french braid puts forth. If I put it up without cement-truck type gel, it not only will fall out, but you can sort of feel the whole mass 'hanging' and pulling--I mean the portion of the braid you tuck under, and the like. I imagine with the right gel a few strategically located pins can do the trick, so I will practice and send any tips your way. I also hate messing w/my hair, this is why it's been short, but I find long hair is very easy as well--just not in Marine training, haha. I imagine so many women do put their hair up, so it's possible, just a headache. I will try to hold out and become a skilled hair putter-upper to where it's 2nd nature and I'm off to important things. I do believe I have to read that post on hair molding. Yeeesh. Hm. While a cut would solve the problem, it will be hard to grow out while in the Marines because it is much easier to put up long hair than middle-of-the-road 'growing out' hair, if you've ever been in that stage, you know, where a sheet of bobby pins just ain't enough?
