I am a 28 year old woman who has considered joining off and on since high school. I am currently a college grad with a computer job in a growing company and I feel like life is slipping by. I have no ties except for family and they all think I am crazy. I just bought a house with my older sister (she is a single mom and I will continue to have to help her out.) I have some debt and a car.

During high school I all but joined, I even took all of the tests and passed. Please someone give me some well rounded advice, because if I do this it has to be sooner rather than later or I will be to old.

Thanks, Traci

Traci:

I am 29 and came to the same conclusion you did! ...essentially, it's all I ever wanted to do.

You can get an age waiver to join until about age 31. It's --definitely-- not too late!!

My family (with the exception of my husband, a former Marine) thought I was crazy too. But I find out they tell people with pride that sis is going to be a jarhead...

Best thing I have ever decided. I am confident in my decision and am super-excited and looking forward to my Marine Corps career.

Since you have a degree, you might also want to explore the possibility of becoming an officer right off the bat. You're probably just at their age limit now for OCS. otherwise, you could go enlisted or become a reservist, then apply to OCS later on, they take older candidates who are already Marines. Natalie can tell you more about this area. When you call the recruiter, tell him you have a degree and want to talk to the OSO also (officer selection officer).

If there's anything I else I can do just email!

Hey Traci,

I'm at work and work some crazy OT lately but email me and we can talk. I'm 26 and by the time I get my degree, I'll be 27. I am going to OCS this coming June ('00). I can tell you all I know about it, being in a similar boat. I was going to do reserves first but feel I'm getting too old to postpone active duty:P

take care,
