HELP!
I am getting mixed messages from everyone....I'm an Aussie wanting to enlist - I know that much is true. Some people are telling me if I get American citizenship I can enlist in the USMC, others are saying I would have to spend 2 years in the Navy and then transfer to the USMC. Someone also told me that a grunt is the same as enlisted....someone told me that they are differnt. What is right? Confusion! I know these are probably stupid questions, but it's difficult to get info when there's no recruiters in Australia!!! Any info would be greatly appreciated...
Natalie.

OK people, I know we mean well, but whoever told young Natalie here from Australia that she would have to 'spend 2 years in the Navy' before she could become a Marine, please step forward and 'stand tall in front of the man...'
I know you may mean well, but please make sure your information is accurate before you go spreading it around. That's the biggest load of BS I think I've ever heard.
I'm not saying I'm the end-all authority on recruiting regulations, but I don't post things like that here unless I heard it straight from the recruiter's mouth. If HE's wrong, then hey, at least that's the Marine Corps talking.
Unless it was done maliciously, I would think that as a future, former or active-duty Marine, you would always want to make sure your info is impeccably correct. Don't waste the poor girl's time if you don't know what you're talking about.

Natalie,
'Grunt' is a term used to refer to Marines with the Infantry MOS (job), whether officer or enlisted. To most people outside the service however grunt usually just means 'a Marine'.

Thanks to everyone who has emailed me and posted responses! Sorry, I know I must look like a bit of a bimbo with some of these questions, (especially the grunt one!), but I'm just learning :-). One day I'll get there - with a bit of help from you guys!! Thanks.
Natalie.
