What type uniforms do they wear today. I do know they wear jungle fatiques like the male marines (we didn't when I was in). We had navy blue slacks and a light blue shirt with black orfords and white socks.
Our summer uniforms were a green/white stripped skirt and shirt, actually now that I think of it it wasn't stripped but it was in that color. They were ugly to me.
Our dress blues, at least those of us that worked for the Pentagon or any Headquarters Marine Corps was a dress blue skirt, with a dress blue jacket with red trim on our lapels, our cover was blue with the red cord and the MC emblem in the middle. I still have my cover, kept it. Now I wish I had kept the whole uniform.
We had to wear high heels with the dress blues, our winter greens (this had a cover like the dress blue hat but green with the red cord and MC emblem. We also had a winter coat of the same material. Most gals did not like that coat but I wore mind proudly and dang it it kept me warm in the winter months.
To go on liberty we had to have a pass and we could only go in our uniforms or 'proper' civilain attire, which was a skirt, blouse or dress and appropriate shoes.
We were required to wear red lipstick to match the red cord on our covers, no jewelery except a watch and ring if you were married. We also had to have our hair slightly shorter than shoulder length, no longer.
How is it different today?
Another question? I've found a web page where a gal states she is a Vietnam Era Women Marine, LCPL, and she is wearing a dress blue uniform but with a white cover. Having worn dress blues most of my time in the Marine Corps I could only wear the dress blue cover. If my memory serves me right only officers wore the white cover. So do y'all suppose this gal is wearing a current issue of the dress blue uniform for women marines. I never saw an enlisted wear this while I was in.
Or was the one I wore because I worked at the Pentagon and HDQRs in DC. Seems strange that in the 8 1/2 years I was in I never saw an enlisted wear the dress blues with the white cover.
It's been so long ago in the 60's-70's that I don't remember if there were two class type dress blues for enlisted women.
If anyone can shed any light on this I'd appreciate it.
