Will there be any type of a swimming test during boot camp? I haven't been swimming for a long time and I need to know if that is one of the things I need to also work on.

yes, as far as i know, there is a bunch of days dedicated to swim tests. it's actually not *swimming*, but more a training on how to survive in the water with your gear (boots, clothes, pack and rifle). you do have to pass this to graduate. let me know if you need more info, i have more stuff at home (i'm at work now) nicole

My recruiter said the same, water survival is a week long and it's not so much swimming (if you don't know how I believe they teach you) but --water survival-- and he said the basic requirement for boot is very easy. however, if your MOS has something to do with water, you have to do the higher qualifications, for example my husband was 1833-Amtracs, and his swim qual was very difficult.

I'm in the same boat--I don't really swim and I've been trying to get to the pool...ha ha... :o)

Yes, there's a swim test. If you qualify on the first level, but not the second, there are only two days in the week that you'll be in the water. Each day is the next level of qualification, from basic survival to unarmed combat in the water with full gear (the instructor attacks you and you have to get him/her off of you). The inital qual is not difficult. The ones who did not pass were recruits who were petrified of the water. There is such a thing as the "swim platoon" where you go if you don't qualify during that week.

I hadn't been swiming in years when I took the test to qualify... basically if you have reasonable lower body strength, you'll make it easy. Go ride a bicycle up a bunch of hills--just trust me :-)
