My recruiter told me that all ship dates (in JAN) were changed to the 10th and 24th. They changed my ship date to the 24th.(It was supposed to be the 3rd. Has anyone else had this happened to them? My recruiter did not evev call me to tell me they had changed it. I just happen to call him to do the weekly check in. Also, can anyone give me some advice, I had a few questions for my recruiter like "when do i take the IST?", where is my MOS school?, stuff like that. He keeps saying he'll get back to me, but never does and when I call him to see if he has found anything out, he has forgotten that I even asked him those questions. What my question is"should I go to the NCOIC and ask him? I don't want to get my recruiter in trouble but I don't like looking stupid when people ask me simple questions that I should know and don't. I don't want to sound like I am whining but I would like to know if it is a good idea to go above my recruiter's head. thanks

Well its nice to see that some recruiters in the Marines and the Air Force arent that different. I say, go over his head to the next in charge. Ive dont it, its doesnt hurt that much, and my recruiter doesnt hate me as much as I thought he would. His boss is really nice and has bent over backwards to help me and my recruiter get along and him to do his job. MY recruiter NEVER remembers anything I say and never calls me back either. Some just never get it.

My recruiter was also the forgetful type... I'm on recruiter assistance for the holidays and I'm pretty much just working for my NCOIC because my recruiter never gets back to me when I ask him what he wants done. Of course, I've been buddy-buddy with my NCOIC anyway from the beginning because she's female. Don't worry about your ship date, your recruiter won't let you miss it. Mine changed three times before I got to ship... and once I had to sit at the MEPS for over 24 hours before I found out I wasn't shipping.

:"when do i take the IST?", where is my MOS school?, stuff like that.

Do you mean your pre-ship IST, the one that you should have to take at the MEPS during your Moment of Truth, or the one you take at boot? The MOT is usually about a week before you ship, but every command is different. I took mine about a month before I shipped. When you get to boot, you'll take it anywhere between 2-5 days after you get there, depending on what day of the week you ship.

What is your MOS? They have a tendency to change the school locations for some MOS's... half the Marines in my platoon had different school assignments than what thier recruiters told them. You'll find everything out for sure when you get to MCT. Like my DI's always told me,,, "don't sweat the small stuff"

If you're worried about going above your recruiter's head, well, it depends on the recruiting command and the NCO's involved... a lot of the problems with failing to use the chain of command tend to be caused by personality differences, not in any real issues.

Boy I'm sure glad we didn't have all of that when I enlisted. I just went to the recruiting office told them I wanted to join, took a test, had to have at least a 53 and mine was 98. Can't remember what the total should have been. I just know alot of them failed mostly men, can't remember if there were any other females that day or not. Anyway I went in on delayed entry (that's what they called it back than) about 2 months later. They sent me a letter to report on May 28 at such and such which I did and a bunch of us went to Parris Island. We arrived there in the middle of the night and they treated us like dogs as I recall.

We got haircuts, got fitted with uniforms and started bootcamp. We had schooling and training in the military way. We took a test a couple weeks before we graduated and didn't know until the day we graduated what our MOS would be and went to the appropriate schools.

I want to say thank you to everybody that answered my "question". And you were right, "don't sweat the small stuff". It just made me realize what I should have already known(being a military brat) that the military will take their sweet time to do what they need to do and that I just need to be patient. Thanks.

My ship date got changed. I have the ship chart for the year 2000 (yes, I do) and I think that when you get assigned a date at MEPS they just pick one and change it later if you are a female. Because women don't ship as often as men, and the only dates/weeks women ship in january are the 10th and 24th. After that is February 7th and since I don't have it in front of me I couldn't tell you the next one but you can email me is you want & when I get home I'll check it....
