View Full Version : Help with joining Marines

I'm having a little trouble with joining the Marines and am wondering if someone can give me a bit of advice. I've never done this before, but I didn't think it would be so difficult.

Twice, I tried to sign up to talk to a recruiter on the official Marine Corp website. Both times I just got an automated email that says "Thank you for your interest in Marine Corp officer program. Please contact your OSO for more information..." More than a month passed and I haven't receive any additional information via email, telephone, nor email since then. I don't even know the name of an OSO to contact.

Without the name of an OSO, I decided to do the only other thing I can think of : talk to a recruiter at the Times Square recruiting station during one of my rare time off from work. He wasn't there, but I spoke with him on the telephone and gave him all my information. Because I had another meeting that day, I asked him to call me back at a later date. He never did.

I never imagined it would be so difficult to even get my foot in the door. I don't have a criminal record and my physical condition is very good. Does anyone have any advice on what my next step should be? Should I wait for someone to contact me?

I can't think of any reason why I'm having difficulty joining. Are the Marines not recruiting for the rest of this year?

Not sure what's up with the website thing, but if you talked to an actual recruiter, I don't know why he wouldn't get back to you. It's possible he lost your info, was stationed somewhere else, or whatever; call again, and see if you can get a name of an OSO. Do you have a government building in town where MEPS is? Try them as well. Keep at it; I'm sure recruiting is not closed for the year.

I am so glad to hear that you are from N.Y. I did my recruiters assistance (PTAD) there at the RS on Beekman. If you are having trouble reaching a recruiter there at that station, call the one one beekman. The number is 212-964-5980. The majority of times they are all there. The NCOIC is always there and they have there morning meetings there before they go out to their own RS's. I hope that this helps you. They are located at 1 beekman St. Manhattan, NY 10038. They are on the 2nd floor. The NCOIC that was there when I was there was SSgt. Montanez and some of the recruiter were SSGT Newsome, and SSgt Castillo. I am not sure if they are there anymore, it was back in 2000 when I was there. Have fun and good luck.

Thanks for the help! I finally contacted a recruiter at RS Beekman and he was able to forward me to an OSO. I'm in the process of filling out my officer package and looking forward to joining the Corp. :D
