I'm in Sea Cadets, and when I go to the base I never know how to do my hair. My cousin just graduated from Marine Boot Camp at Parris Island and I notice the Marine females hair ....is there anyone that knows how they did there hair, or anyway to put long hair in a professional looking style?!

This is what I do for my almost shoulder length hair. I took a pair of nylons and cut the toes off then rolled them up into a fat doughnut. Then, I take my hair and put it in a ponytail. Stick the ponytail through the hole in the doughnut and then spread the hair over the nylon so it is no longer visible (or actually till you only feel hair around it). Then you put another rubberband around that and tuck, pin, spray (whatever works best) any stray ends down. At first, it sounds silly and maybe diffult, but it looks so professional!! It is the perfect bun! After just a few times, I can have my hair done with in a minute. Hope this helps.

when I was in the Marine Corps I learned to French Braid my hair. I could keep it long that way. It was a feminine, attractive and professional style. Since I could have no bobbypins, barrets, or anything showing this style was perfect for me. I could French braid it then put a ponytail holder on the end and tuck it under. Working on the flight line I was not allowed to use bobbypins or anything that could come lose and be considered FOD {Foreign Object Debris} on the flightline. Something as simple as a bobbypin could ruin a jet engine if it got in the intake.

Experiment to see what works best for you though. And if you do decide to try a French braid try not to get too frustrated. It takes time and practice. It would take me quite a while when I first started to learn how to do it myself. Now I can do it in a matter of 2 or 3 minutes and my hair is thick, curly and when wet to the lower part of my back and when dry just below my shoulder blades.

Nat,

I have seen many hair style during my tour of duty. Long hair is the easiest length to style. What I do is slick my hair back or with a part, (down the middle or on the side) then I spray it down or gel it. Then I braid the pony tail and twrill it around until I make a bun. Make sure to spray it before you make a bun. Also, damp hair makes for a more clean look. Secure the end of the braid with bobby pins that match your hair color. That is the most important part to making a clean and professional hair style. It's like the other girls said...keep trying different looks and practice. I also love the sock bun.

Just noticed that you signed this as "Sgt Morales." If memory serves, the last post from you was from "Cpl Morales." Congratulations on becoming a Sergeant of Marines!
