As some of you may have heard/experienced, the military has adopted SHARP -standard for harrassment and racism prevention. What are the opinions of other woman out on the net?Is this going to help, or not?If not what should we suggest?

I definetly think the SHARP training will work.**However, SHARP training does not teach anybody what they don't already know, I think it is just to remind us that what we think is 'okay' might not be with the other party.**The thing is, the "harrashment" that might goe on in the military also goes on in the Civilian life, the only thing is Media can't go out and haunt those so called 'everyday fooling around'.**I know there has been some unimaginable incidents that has scared the military image but I think due to the SHARP training and the whole new attitude the military will achieve it's better image back again.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly with what you say about SHARP trg.**I feel that if people in the military are properly educated in these matters, half the stuff that happens could be nipped in the bud before it got to far out of hand. I recently took a harassment facilitator's course (March 1997) and I hope I am never put in a position to ever have to use it, but through the training I received I now can understand both sides of the situation and that you have to be a good listener, whether you are help the defendant or the complainant.I feel, that with the training and the knowledge that is in place (SHARP TRAINING), everyone will be the wiser and we will see fewer and fewer incidents in regards to the matters of Harrassment and Racism.___________________________________________ ___________________________**I believe Sharp is good to educate people on the subject.**I also think that the best prevention is in each individual.**I have been in the military for 20 yrs now, most often being the only woman working with men crews.**Positive attitude and respect for all individuals, males or females, usually goes both ways.**I can recall some minor incidents over the years that some paranoid people could label as harassment,**which I have personnaly delt with, one on one, with the other parties and have always come to a mutual understanding. I have to admit that I did prefer (and still do) working with men because of their direct approach.**I have worked with excellent people (men and women) over the years but also encountered some miserable indiduals,**but thats life (military or not) and we all have to try to**make the most of it.**There is only one world and we all have to live in it!So yes I do beleive that SHARP will help, with time...

I am not a member of the CF. but I am a cadet and sharp traning has "rolled down hill" into our corps and units, aswell as our summer traning establishments . In many ways I beleive that the program is very usfull but I do think that it has it's downfalls, many of my friends and officers have developed relations at a corps level as well as a personal level, when I first joined my unit there was much more of a family system. Officers and cadets and seionor cadets and juniors all related like a familiy, brothers and sisters almost . Sharp traning and the major implications that come with the sharp program have distanced us greatly , we must be so very careful with what is said and we must always ask permission to help a cadet fix there uniform ... I can no longer have my male guard officer fix my uniform for the fear that it could be "taken th wrong way" it is a serious problem but I think maybe sharp traning has made us parinoid, but it still is a good idea to an extent.
