I just retired from the forces after nine years. When I first got posted to Edmonton I went to 1CER which is a combat unit, when they found out I was pregnent they got me posted out I did not agree with this so I put in a redress, and to this day I have not heard**anything back. So if you think you are getting help from the military if you are a women you arewrong as they say they are helping you just to shut you up.****************************************Coleen Thrussell

Coleen, Let me get this straight, you were in the military nine years and never figured out how the grievance system worked? I find this hard to believe. Every Canadian forces Orderly room holds all the info you need to place a redress. If you failed to follow the proper procedures or did not send your grievance to a higher command, you have only yourself the blame for such a lang wait. The present grievance system allows you to initiate a grievance even after you leave the forces. I suspect, however, that there is more to this than you are telling.

LOL ...I don't know Mr. Harper. I was in for 14 years and submitted a grievance in 1999. My grievance went to 3rd party, was decided in my favour, but the CDS disagrees with that 3rd party decision. Thus, I believe the CDS has placed my grievance in the "I don't like this decision" drawer and now it will rest there in perpetuity. In fact, I bet when the present CDS is showing the next CDS around, he will tell uh, her, about "that drawer." If you don't like this particular grievance or decision just throw in "that drawer" as you are well within your rights to drop it in, and forget about it cause the CDS has no time limit.
I believed this new grievance process/grievance board would provide an outlet where employees.. errr soldiers ..could have their concerns addressed. Alas, I'm not so sure anymore. It doesn't seem to make alot of sense how the CDS can still ignore or veto a 3rd party decision. Why set up a grievance board and an elaborate grievance process when the CDS, really, has the final and only say?
Just FYI--I knew my way around policy & procedures..and yet, I still wait. I have been in quite close contact with the Ombudsmans office...and they have been hitting the same walls that I have been encountering. Do you have any advice or perhaps, an "in"? ((smiles))
Cheers,
