Hello to all of you there who already joined military , I found thisforum just recently and think its a great idea to give support andadvice to all of us who are trying to get some answers ,**I'm now acivilian, but am seriously thinking about joining the Air Force . Nowhere's my problem : 1)**the country I live in doesn't even considerfemales in any part of Army,**AF, etc. Only males can serve and beprofessional soldiers, but I have no worries about it.**I planed longtime ago to leave it, and become a citizen of some other country . Ichose Canada . I know it takes at least 3 years to be even considered for applying for citizenship , and one more before the process is over, but I think I could make it .**And I know that without being theircitizen, its not possible to join military . Now, I`d reallyappreciate help of someone who knows how things work in Canada . I'm now21, and plan to leave next summer (and hopefully stay forever hehe ) ,to go to some college or university that is 3 or 4 years long , andafter that (presumably I`d already get a citizenship) apply for a directofficer entry . I'm especially interested for Air Force I`d LOVE tobecome a fighter pilot (does anyone know if women can be fighter pilotsin Canada?) Now this is called**"best case scenario"**hehe , here'squestion nr 2) are there any colleges or universities in Canada. thatare funded by government (non-military), or some less expensive ones ?And , is it possible to join AF with only finished high school ? I knowabout one program in which the limitation for entry is 26 ( I think that26 is limit for joining canadian AF ) and it only requires a high schoolgraduation , and military would pay all the expense in the RMCC (thinkits called Royal Mil. College of Canada but I'm not sure ) . As you cansee I don't know much about how the process works,**and would be verygrateful for any help . I really hope that somebody can help me withsome advice.**My e-mail is deana_3@hotmail.com**. I wish all the best infuture to all of you , once again this forum is a great way to findanswers and support , I'm sorry I didn't find it before , hope to seemore web sites on the net in future dedicated to women in military..******************Sincerely S.D.

S.D. The requirements for joining the Canadian Military are as follows: You must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant. You must be at least 17 years of age in the year of enrolement. You must be physically fit. You must have at least grade 10, although that will soon change to grade 12, and You must be of good character and be willing to undergo a security check.

If you wish to become an officer you must: Be a Canadian citizen. Have at least grade 12, although this will soon change to a university degree. Be physically fit. Be of good character and be willing to undergo a security check. Officers can enter as direct entry officers if you have a degree that the military recognizes. You can attend Royal Military College and get a degree with the military, however you must have excellent grades to get in and competition is stiff. A third route is to apply while you are in university or college and possibly be accepted. The age limit for joining is 52. It has not been 25 for many years. I would suggest contacting a nearby recruiting center (they are in the blue pages of any Canadian phone book) to get more up to date info. You can also visit the Canadian armed forces recruiting web site. J.M. Harper
