Wow. it's nice to see a resource for women in the Canadian military. I can only hope that this gets a broader audience eventually. I have a few thoughts though.

Instead of using this as a forum to moan and drip about the officer/NCM question, let's just put our ranks aside for the moment, and maybe just enjoy the solidarity of being women serving in the military? We all work hard at what we do, and there's no need for any of us to be sniping at each other based on rank and trade. I've been on both sides of the fence, and both have their ups and downs.

Second, for anyone thinking of joining the CF, I would highly recommend starting as an NCM in the reserves. I recommend this because being an NCM will give you a greater understanding of how the troops feel if you decide to someday take a comission. It will open your eyes, teach you the value of hard work, and get you a trade. It also gives you the freedom to do your job, without some of the social pretensions that are forced onto junior officers. I recommend the Reserve because it will give you an idea of the form and structure of military life before you actually make a full time commitment to that life, and making informed decisions is almost always better than going traipsing blindly into a life (and yes, the military is a life, no matter how much anyone says you can leave work at work...example being what other job gives you forty eight hours notice before sending you across a dozen time zones into an active theater of war?). You will gain a lot, even from a brief experience in the Reserves.
