View Full Version : Women are treated better than men

Women in the military today are not being held to a higher standard than men. For all you feminists out there who think women are being slapped around by their commanding officers and held back because they are women, you could not be more wrong. Don't think I'm some sort of uneducated chauvanist, either. I have two brothers in the military. One is an instructor for the 2nd Training Wing at the navy base in Kingsville, Tx. He's been flying with the navy for 7 years. The other brother is in, granted it's not a combat unit, but support roles are generally the first to be hit in a war thereby cutting off the front lines, a construction battalion in Tennessee. Both have had their fair share with women. The instructor, when he was in flight school, was in a group with several women. One of those women was recieving consistently low scores for her flight performance. She was put under a review board. Had she been a male, she would have been booted. The reviewers were recieving pressure from their superior officers to pass the girl. She was given a special set of rules when the next test time came around, which were far simpler to accomplish than the regular rules. She still failed. Once again, she was given another chance. She failed again, but when she heard she was going to be sent back, she threatened all the people on the review board with sexual harrasment cases. She was immediately sent for psychiatric evaluation, and was thereafter courtmartialed. There you go, feminists. Women aren't being held back, they're being held up by the political correctness of this backwards country. Had I a say in it, women wouldn't be treated any better. They would have to pass the exact same tests, not tests that have been revamped for 'a woman's needs'. What crap.

This is really not worth responding to, but I will:**You pointed out your vast experience base as a guy with a couple of brothers in the service, and were able to expertly recall experiences they had heard about.**Hmm.**I've heard lots of stories on lots of topics 2nd, 3rd and 4th hand, but I reserve comment unless I've lived the experience myself.**This topic I have; I've been in the Navy for 15 years, and although I won't bore you with the stories, I certainly could.**Assuming your story is true, and that you have all the facts, (which is quite a leap), then look at what you actually have:**A woman who got righfully court-martialed for a false accusation.**Well, good!**And shame on anyone who would have allowed preferential treatment; it is just as bad as discrimination- the other end of the pendulum swinging from fear toward hysteria. Sounds like this gal was no good!**But let's keep this in perspective, hunh?**I've had to help push a few "bad seeds" out of the military, (not fun), and I can assure you, they cross all races, creeds, and sexes. I'll say that most folks can find a convienient horror story to back up any belief they've got. I've encountered some very "bad boys"- but those in no way reflect on the quality of the vast majority of my brothers in the Navy who I proudly serve with.**Lastly, I assume from your tone that "feminist" is a negative term relating to a cold, extremist woman who wants to do a man's job?**If so, let me assure you I'm a warm wife and mother, and I like to garden and paint as well as defend my country, fix electronics and go to sea.**It has NOT been any easy path, but it's worth it.**Women are treated better than men?**Please!**Quite frankly, you have no idea what you're talking about, and you sound riddiculous to those of us who do.

I tend to trust the first posting than the most recent one. In some, and sometimes most cases, women are treated better by the military than men are. For example, in some/many Marine bases women sleep the first night while men stay up and complete other items of necessity that women complete in the morning after a good nights sleep.
...And yes, that woman WAS court-martialed, but the review board gave her many more chances that would not have been given to males that had had the same problem. I think women should be treated at the exact same level as men; and if they can't handle it, toughen up...or leave, no one's stopping them.

: Hmm...I trust I am responding late to this posting, but I've read both sides and see everyone has valid reasons for thinking the way they do. From all I've read lately as well as from personal experience, though not in the military yet, is that the standard of equality and fairness really needs to be adhered to. This means, yes, we all come across some bad apples of all kinds. But I must sympathize with the guys as well, though a woman myself, because I know many women who do not do their share and then want the same benefits, in many areas. I am tired of hearing about sexual harassment cases as excuses to get out of work, or to not have to do as well as the next guy or girl. I am simply tired of male bashing for the sake of it when it is not called for. I am not teaming up with anyone for any reason other than justice and fairness, so I am not blindly fighting pro or con. I could care less about sex or race, we are all able and incredible individuals. Bottom line is this: what you get in life you should earn. Would I want ANYTHING curved for my benefit? HELL NO!!! But I know I would never need that, nor would I stoop. Why join the military unless you are tough as nails, or willing to be that, or willing to earn your place? I see the warfare (no pun intended) going on between men and women, and really it is all very silly & unnecessary. It is not one sided since no 2 folks are alike. But before anyone makes the committment to serve their country, they should certainly be up to speed & prepared mentally and physically. If they are not, they can try hard, believe, and get there. Or they can take the easy out & become a weak point amoung the forces which protect the lives of our people. The military is no place for cruising and coasting instead of doing and trying. It is no place for whining that life is unfair. This would be dishonoring all the men and women who died for their country. Despite the fired up comments i may receive, I'd like to remind everyone whether they believe women should be in combat or not, of the thousands and thousands of MEN (for any male bashers) who have died for all of us thus far. Women have as well, and God knows I honor all you women who paved the way, and who honorably serve today. I'm sure men with sense do too! But remember those who died, if nothing else, and let that guide your choices in your military service when you don't feel like trying as hard as everyone else. When a woman uses her sex to get preferential treatment, she is dishonoring all those who came home in body bags, and also those who almost did, and then also all the rest...and then some. Honor. Respect. Courage. Fairness. These qualities make a good soldier. Women make great soldiers! Yes! But men know that. It is those, and there are many, who make the rest of us real troopers look like whining daisies with fragile nails. I resent them for this reason, for the ones who work their asses off. For those who don't think life is fair...Life never was fair! I understand all the viewpoints out there, but I sincerely believe in the work ethic, and in kicking butt with your own abilities. We have to remember, if we want an easy, cushy life, we need to stay out of the military. We need to stay on the couch, watching life present itself to us on the tube. Better to be a couch hero than to indirectly cause more deaths in our military than necessary by contributing to the weakening of it!! This is a serious business, where people die when the weakest link of the chain breaks, which can be anyone, but we must be fair. Same standards for all! No favorites! I'm sure ladies, that there are real chauvenistic jerks out there. But to be honest with you i have worked in many businesses, especially the music business where you have many lines of political correctness overstepped! But I never was soft, to each his/her own. All I have to say is if you have guts and character and pack a lot of punch, and are decent and fair and honorable, most men you come across will be the same toward you. People pick up on those who try hard and do well. This I know. I really think if we had more equal treatment and no babying in the military, there would be no resentment from the majority of those who may now resent. But then that's the way I was raised...and this is merely my opinion. I really do feel for all sides & arguments, but in my book, fairness reigns supreme. NO FREE LUNCH!! Best wishes to all and thank you so much for your time. -Natalie:)
