I've read all the messages on the board and agree with some and shake my head at others.**It is clear that women are just as qualified as men to be effective combat soldiers.**We need to stop making excuses for them and holding them back.**Also, we need to put away our petty prejudices and encourage them to compete.**The time is now to repeal the ground combat exclusion for women.**We need to capitalize on their talents and put the most qualified person, regardless of gender, in all combat positions.**Women in infantry positions and other front-line combat will improve the effectiveness of our armed forces.

Don, there aren't any ground combat exclusion laws - there never were. The only combat exclusion laws that ever existed were two sections of USC 10 that pertained only to assignment of women in the Air Force and Navy to combat aircraft and to combat naval vessels. These laws were repealed in 1993. In fact, certain combat specialties in the Army have been open to women since 1978. The only thing that has ever prevented assignment of women in the Army to infantry or armor is Army policy.
