At 19 I am seriously considering joining the army.**The issue of women in combat has always stirred mixed emotions in me, but after reading many of these articles I finally figured out my view on the matter.**So I thought I would put my two sense worth in!**I agree that there are both men and women who are incapable of serving in combat situations, and yes the percentage of women is probably higher, but that is not the point. My point is that if a women is serious enough to join the military in the first place that is an indication that she is no ordinary stay at home and do my nails kinda girl.**Not to disregard those who are a bit more fragile after all I am a woman to and I like to look NICE and be feminine, but I also like to throw on some bum clothes and shoot a few rounds or go running through the woods.**I do believe that it takes a special individual to succeed in combat situations, but given proper training many men and women alike are capable of that.**In one way I think that if women were to be allowed in combat they may have to be in all female companies.**And I kind of cringe at that, but I am just trying to be realistic.**They would probably perform better in that environment. I mean who would want to piss off a bunch of female warriors with M16's?**Not me!**And not most men I know either!Besides performance being in an all female team would keep the guys from asking the classic question of, "If I was hit could you carry me out?"**My response is, "If I can't carry you out then I'll try dragging you, and if I can't do that then I'll stay and die with you."**These men, women, and "higher ups" need to realize that American spirit and the bare will to survive is not determined on your anatomy.**This kind of stuff is in your heart and in yourgut.**And if a lady-yes I said lady- has that then she can do anything and everything she sets her mind to!**It is not a matter of if a man or woman can do it better, its just can either of you do it efficiently.**If both can then lock and load!**Yes I know there are physical differences and all the rest and those things are important, just as are a woman's "special" medical needs. But girls we are no whimps!**I believe in the old saying of where there is a will there is a way...hey call me old fashion!**But if they would let us in and not make a stink about it things would go much better.**And yes even I (as much as I like the military) at times find it odd to look at the mental picture of woman doing most of the things that are seen in movies, and actual war clips as things that our dads, brother, husbands, and lovers did and just the thought of a big percentage of that being women was, and is difficult for people to see.**However, I have met women in the military that I can completely see in ANY situation.**I think that it all depends on the person, if the woman has what it takes then let her decide.**My parents are freaking out at the idea of "their baby girl hiking around in combat boots, rifle, and ruck" and also at the possiblity of being sent off to some conflicted area, and the unfortunate cases of sexual harrassment (which is always a possibility whenyou combine testosterone and estrogen!) But considering going into the service we-or at least I- have to embrace such things as reality.**We know it is not an easy road to travel, but if you want it then it is worth taking the risks.**That is just my opinion though.**I feel that for some people the easiest road, while being easy is not always the most fulfilling.**So here is to living long, productive, and fulfilling lives ladies!**Take pride in yourselvesand your country.**I have one last thing to share with you, my motto in life wether it be in the military or in the civial world is as follows:**I have nothing to prove to the world, only to myself. I do what I do because I can not because I have to convince someone else that I am capable.
