I'm a teenage female with a couple of opinions to express on equality. Before I state my opinion I would like to say that most all of my friendsare guys and that they all treat me as their equal. This could bebecause I've been raised in a third generation construction family (we're all tough)and also**because I am the only girl in the family and I've always played withthe guys and enjoy target practice rather than painting my nails.** So now that you know the background for my opinions here theyare. First of all if a woman wants to be in combat or hold the same jobsas men she needs to meet the same requirements without lowering the requirements for everyone. If she cannot meet the samerequirements (physical as well as mental) then she doesn't need to be inthat job, if men can't handle the requirements they are not allowed inthat job, the same should go for women. Until women and men have the samerequirements in every aspect then we will not be equal. Second the hygieneproblem is really not that big of a problem. Women do not need a portapottie to survive. I've been camping, hunting, hiking etc. during myperiod with several men around without trailers or porta potties and didjust fine. I realize that these recreational activities are not the sameas a combat situation but if men can hide behind a bush so can women itreally isn't a big deal. And if there isn't a bush in sight then everyonecan just turn around for a minute. If a co-ed group of teenagers canhandle the hygiene problem then I hope a company of adult soldiers canalso handle it. Third one thing most people bring up is the pregnancyissue. My view on that is if in combat situations or while deployed on aship a woman gets pregnant, find out who the father is and suitably punishhim and the mother. Don't blame it solely**on the woman. Because last timeI checked it took two to make a baby. Fourth I feel sorry for the malepopulation since in baning women from combat situations we are effectivlytelling them that their lives are less important then a womans. I bet mostof them don't feel that way. So in short women should be allowed to tryfor combat situations and other traditional male roles. If they can'thandle it then send them home, and if you can't send them home use theclassic phrase "Get Tough, or Die". But just because one woman can'thandle it don't blame the whole population of women. There are men whocan't handle it but you don't ban the entire male population from combat (which would be a stupid idea). Let us tryif we can't make it send us home, but this issue will not ever be resolveduntil we are allowed try and either fail or succeed. I think we willsucceed but no one will ever know until we try.

I agree with your positions.**If women are qualified, they should be in front-line positions.**Hopefully, this will happen sooner, not later.**It seems rather stupid to exclude 52% of the population from the pool of potential combat soldiers.

I totally agre with everything you say. Why? because I've seen it with my own eyes here in Sweden and I know it can work out just the way you described. The closest example I have is a female collegue of mine at my regiment (she is trained in a combat"branch"). There isn't a man at the regiment that beats here in pt-tests for example. Well, if women in Sweden can handle to be in combat-units and meet up to male standards, why not US women?
