In this great nation, we face the questions of rights everyday.**However, we often forget that although the military is part of America, it is a country of its own, with laws and expectations from its citizens and like America it is entirely voluntary.**But what many civilians miss in this is that even to get into America you have to pass certian tests to obtain citizenship.**The military has the same need to screen those who do not belong there.**It isn't descrimnation, but finding the best to make it the best.**Now to the question of standards.**As with the entrancy classes and tests needed to gain entrancy to the States, you have tests to pass to gain entrancy into the military.**(now this is for the average joe/jane, not those with money to buy their way)**there is one standard, albeit not a physical standard you do have to pass the test to gain admission. In the military, however, there is**a different standard. based on percentages.** THIS IS WRONG!!!If a man doesn't cut it, he doesn't cut it, but if a woman doesn't then there is a curve, if she passes it, then ok.**I firmly believe that if a woman can pass the same tests as any man, barely or with plenty of room to spare, then let her in.**Till the standards are ironed out, men will always have a problem with woman in the military.**I would not want to fight along side someone if I couldn't trust them to do the job.**Man or Woman.**I am physically able to pass the male requirement in PT and other areas of training.**I make myself train at that expectation as do other woman.**Those who squeak by and know it, give those of us who can do the job a bad name.**I am not in the military as yet, my father was service (AF,Training Instructor).**He taught me that if your gonna do it, do it all the way and at the top, never do it just barely getting by.Change the standards and you'll most likely change the attitude.(this does not mean that those who barely pass or pass within the standards set for woman, should leave or are not able to do their jobs, but if you want men to change their attitudes don't give them any spark to feed the fire.)
