I personally believe that if ever we elected a person for President who did not want to uphold the Constitution or made some gross violation against the law of our land, the American people would call for his removal before the military got involved. However considering the current apathy towards anything political by the American people I don't know if that would be the case. However having to uphold the Constitution I think would take Predicint over upholding the President. We take an oath to the office of the President not necessarily the person holding that office. In my opinion, if we took an oath to uphold the person who holds the office then in every election regardless of the outcome we would be duty bound to make sure this one person retained power. Thus we would not have a Democracy but a Monarchy or Dictatorship. In short we are a tool of the American People not the American government so I guess it would depend on what the people and Congress would have us do.

Thanks for replying! :-) I agree with everything that you said; it is pretty much my reasoning, too. I'm still unclear about one thing...the President is is still the Commander-in-Chief. Aren't you bound to obey him as a superior officer, and if you disobey him, couldn't you get court-marshalled or something? I guess I don't see, in this situation, how you could fulfill your oath and obey your orders as a military personell at the same time.
