Well said, Debora!!**I have 5 years active duty Air Force and now, 5 additional years AF Reserves under my belt.**College money is a good idea when you join the reserves or active duty, but that alone should not be the reason.**There is a wonderful sense of pride in being a man or woman in uniform, and though patriotism seems unnatural to many young folk these days, it still exists and is expected in the military.**The uniform not only is something we wear, but a symbol of America and represents all of us.**I have never regretted the service, and if a time of war comes up again, I will be there for our beautiful country!**As Debora had mentioned, the two previous post-ees need to answer their own questions about commitment and desires in life.**If there is a "fear" about fighting, there are many jobs in all of the military services in which a woman can work and not actively "fight" (medical services being one of them), but if that fear is to go out of country in time of conflict... don't join.**Too many reservists were unwilling to go for Desert Storm, and we don't need whiners... we need do-ers.**That's all I have to say.**:)

This is a great time for you to apply for an Air Force ROTC scholarship.**If you have any aspirations of going to college, an AFROTC scholarship provides you with all/some of the money for tuition and you also GET to serve in the USAF as a commissioned officer.**That's the route I'm taking, and it's been great.**Otherwise, enlisting is an option.**I'm not sure on the details for that, but check with your local recruiter. The USAF can be great, if you make the most of it.**I have a close friend that experienced both ends (he hated it at first, and then after a breakthrough, he loved it).**It's a great opportunity to see and do things not many people can.**Most importantly, you have to opportunity to serve the USA.
