I'm seriously thinking of joining the AF. The only thing that is intimidating for me is the idea of boot camp. I'm tiny (5'5, 100 lbs.) and not physically fit, but I am strong. I told my recruiter that if I join, I want to go to boot camp next June (it would let me go to college two more semesters). So I've got about 9 months to get ready physically. Any suggestions on how to go about this? How much running is done every day over there? What other exsercises should I do to get ready? Please help! Thanks,Krisps...please email the response.

There really isn't anything to be scared of.**Air Force Basic Training is the easiest of all the branches.**You have to able to run a mile and half by the end of the training but each week you work up to that goal.**The physical part is easy the most strenous is the obstacle course which you do twice.**I'm only 5'2 and at the time I was only about 110 pounds and it was a breeze.**If you go in scared than it is going to be scary but if you go with the mind set I can do this than you will succeed...GOOD LUCK!!!

I hear the flts are integrated know. anyway, your recruiter can tell you the exact physical requirements. Just workout regularly and those requirements will be easy. The hard part is being far away from home, no friends, being yelled at all the time,**having 3 min to eat an entire plate of food and drink "3 non-carbonated bevrages per meal". Cherish these moments with your family and friends because you will miss them! kelly.williams@dm.af.mil

I didn't do anything physical until the day I got to basic. It's all mind power. The best thing my recruiter ever told me is this "don't go into it with the option of quitting" it's that simple. Go there knowing that you can and will do this. Keep in mind that when they are yelling at you they want the whole flight to pay attention, so when they're yelling at someone else, pay attention. They don't do the mile and a half thing tat Chris was talking about anymore. Now it's minimum two miles everyday. Run at your own pace as long as you do atleast two miled in the allotted time. They don't do sissy girl push ups any more either. Guy pushups, regular and close position. (your hands together). It's not that bad, you'll make great friends, it's the only time in the air foce that you get treated that way, and don't volunteer for anything. AND ABOVE ALL ELSE DON'T TELL THEM YOU LIKE TO BOWL. You'll end up cleaning toilets. Have a great time, and don't be scared, just don't take what the TI's say personally. They're not yelling at you because they don't like you. They're yelling at you because that's their job. If you have any more questions feel free to e-mail me at scully_look_alike2@yahoo.com

im sorry but i read some of your responses and some of the info is wrong and out of date. the air force is a very good career choice or just for four years and i do believe you wont have the problems you think you will have. i joined 3 yrs ago. the pysical activity is designed to built you up so you can do it. you have to run 2 miles in a time limit but that time is changed as your ti knows you are getting in better shape. there are also other exercises you do at your own pace and with a patner. dont worry you can do it i was the last person you would have thought was physically ready but i have now been done so long with basic it seems like a dream. and remember that is only 6 wks for a lifetime of benefits.
