I'm gung-ho about joining the Air Force as an officer.**I have some questions too.**If I don't make it in OTS, does that mean I wash back to the enlisted ranks?**If they don't need me in the area of my degree, will they let me in and train me to do something else?**I've been taking practice exams for the AFOQT, is the exam terrible grueling?**It doesn't seem so scary in the practice form.**How well must I do in order to have a fighting chance to get in?**Is there any way to study for the non Academic Composite areas?**Is there any reason if I have no designs on becoming a pilot or a navigator?**How likely is it that I could get overseas if I really wanted to get overseas?**Does one ever, under any circumstances, get to wear civilian clothing on the job once one has joined the Air Force?**These are just some questions I wanted to know about.**I don't think that any answer will deter me from my goal, but I am curious.**Thanks for any insight you have regarding my questions.

Lot's of questions--and all good.**Let's see how many I can answer to your satisfaction:**Q. If I don't make it in OTS, does that mean I wash back to the enlisted ranks?**A. If you don't make it in OTS, you'd wash back to enlisted ranks if you came from enlisted ranks.**There could be an option to allow you to join as an enlisted member, but just remember the folks at OTS want you to succeed and will do everything they can to help you.**Q. If they don't need me in the area of my degree, will they let me in and train me to do something else?**A. Yes.**Q. I've been taking practice exams for the AFOQT, is the exam terrible grueling?**A. Exams are always grueling. My weak area was mechanics--I had my brother show me the "guts" to a car and it actually helped.**I'd study those areas that you may be weak in.**Q.**How well must I do in order to have a fighting chance to get in?* A. Normally if you exceed 75% in all areas, you have a good chance.* Q. Is there any way to study for the non Academic Composite areas?**A. Don't know the answer to this one.**Q. Is there any reason if I have no designs on becoming a pilot or a navigator? A. Don't think you finished your question--any reason for what.**I'm assuming you're asking if there's any reason to join if you don't want to be a pilot or nav.**The answer is yes--being a pilot/nav is really overrated.**While pilots and navs are instrumental in warfighting, they can't do their jobs without mechanics, logisticians, etc.**Q. How likely is it that I could get overseas if I really wanted to get overseas?**A. Excellent.**Q. Does one ever, under any circumstances, get to wear civilian clothing on the job once one has joined the Air Force?**A. Not unless you're a member of the OSI.**Good luck.

The math was the absolute worst part of the entire test!! I studied for a month and a half for those sections. I used the recommended study guide and friend who was a math major in college. When I felt confident enough to take the test I was blown away. There were NO problems on the test for the countless types of equations I learned to do according to the study guide!! Those sections looked like another language to me. All the studying I did was useless. The others sections were a breeze. They were easier than the study guide questions. As for the other 10 parts, to me, they were easy as well. In my opinion there really isn't much you can do to study for that. Either your brain "works" that way or it doesn't! I'm more mechanically and visual-spacially inclined. Just don't take the math too lightly! Good Luck!
