I am 30 years old, am a Master's Degree prepared Certified Nurse-Midwife, am married, and I have yet to start childbearing.**I've always felt a strong pull to do military service.**I would choose the Air Force or Reserves.**I was in A.F. ROTC in college, but became ill at the time and was not able to follow through.**I would like to serve as an officer, because I feel my leadership and educational and clinical qualities are high.**Anyone with any suggestions?**Please e-mail me at gayle.martinchick@cwix.com.**Thanks!

Joining is a personal decision-and serious commitment-that every person has to make for themselves.**I can tell you that I'm glad after it was all said and done that I took that step and joined the Air Force.**It gives me the training, self-discipline and life experience I'd always been looking for and also gives me a sense of pride and belonging-I'm an airman now. With your education you would probably be head and shoulders above your peers.**They wouldn't really look at you as enlisted, for any branch you considered you would probably be put before a board to qualify for Officer Training School.**That is even more prestigious, and open to you since you have a great deal of your education out of the way.You will have to choose what you want to do quickly, they have an age cutoff line around the early 30's.**Just remember, once you sign and swear in**you've made a very honorable decision but also a profound commitment-they'll make you work hard for entrance into the armed services.**What ever your branch or decision, remember-Aim High.Jen

I'm thinking seriously about joining also. I was in the AF as an enlisted member in the medical arena for 4 years and loved it. I'm planning on going back in as a medical officer after I finish my Masters in Social Work. If you go talk to a recruiter, they can show you a video of the Commissioned Officer Training that you would go through as a medical officer. I watched it. It's 4 weeks of intense training. I heard it's somewhat "Mickey Mouse" compared to Basic Military Training that enlisted personnel go through.
If you're a nurse, I wouldn't worry too much about the age factor. You can get an age waiver for that because I know of people who have gotten one. The AF needs health care personnel right now - especially because of the war.
Check it out with a recruiter. They're not so bad - he he he.
