My wife and I have decided that enlisting in the Air Force could be a good decision for our family (first baby due in January, probably enter boot camp February or later). I want to enlist in the Air Force's "Audiovisual and Broadcast Technician" field. I have an AS degree in Humanities and**about 50 credits till I graduate with a BS in Broadcast Communications. What I am wondering is how much leeway is the recruiter given to guarantee me the position that I want? Also I have been told that depending on experience and your recruiter you can go in at a higher pay scale (up to E3) is this true?I (Laurel) have a question about Air Force life. We have pets (2 cats, 1 Miniature Schnauzer), are pets allowed on base family housing? It would be very difficult to leave our pets behind. Thanks Laurel and Chris Walker

Hi Laurel and Chris!!! I think the Air Force is a wonderful experience. Both my hubby and I are air force, that's how we met. You can't beat the medical care. It's free!!!!! When you go to the recruiter's you can request a specific career field, we call it a AFSC. Get it in writing. They'll probably tell you they can't, but they can. If you know anyone in the service take them with you. Don't let the recruiter jerk you around. The pay scale has nothing to do with experience. What they can do, is depending on how much college you have they can get you in at a higher pay grade. I have a friend who did one year of college and she came in as E-2, and another friend of mine had two years and he came in as an E-3. So they'll ask you how many hours you have and figure it that way. Also there is a career field that you can choose that you enlist for six years and come in as an E-3. That AFSC is pararescue, or combat control. My hubby never finished the tech school to be a pj, but he got o keep his stripes and years. Also, I think you can have two pets in housing, but I've known many that have three. Housing lists vary from base to base though, so don't count on getting in right away. I'm outta room, I hope I've helped. If you have any more questions I'd love to get an e-mail from you. I am a reservist now and basically a dependant, so if the soon to be dependent has any questions about how to deal during separations (I am the expert, I haven't seen my husband for almost two years except for 6 weeks here two months there) I'm always here. I'd love to hear from you guys. Sonja Rowe scully_look_alike2@yahoo.com
