Hi...I'm a 17 year old female, currently in my Senior year of High School. I've been interested in joining the military for as long as I can remember, but my parents have always kind of warned me away from it. My dad served in the Air Force for 20 years, and my mom for 4 or so, and they say that the military is no place for a woman of high moral character today. Is this true? Also, I have always loved flying and I cannot imagine anything more stimulating and gratifying than flying a jet. What are the qualifications you need to be a pilot? I have heard it said that women cannot fly very well in formation because they don't fly close in enough...does anyone know whether or not that is a fact? I need glasses for distance vision, and my dad says with them I wouldn't be allowed to fly. Any facts or opinions would be much appreciated...I am really confused because I don't know what I should do. I just want to serve my country and the best way I can do that is through the military (though not necessarily as a pilot). Thanks...Jen

Do it.... Join... your parents have their opnions, but they werew also in a while ago.... believe it or not the AIr Force has Changed for women, but for the good. Everyone I know thinks better of me for having done what I am doing, it is not the wrong place to be if you are worried about your character. If anything it will just strenghthen it.... so whatever you decide good luck to you.
