I have wanted to join the air force for a long as I can remember. The only problem I have is that I do not know if I will like it. My mom grew up in the air force and says that I should only join as an officer. Is it that bad not being an officer. I will have enough college credits to enlist as an E-3 with in a few months. Should I just go an enlist or is it worth it to waiting 2 to 3 more years until I get my degree? I am concerned that I will be to old if I do not do it now. Right now I am 22 years old. Would I feel out of place if I waited to join, or should I just call up my recruiter and get in after this semister. If anyone has any suggestion please E-mail me at KWright@aol.com

Hi. I was browsing today in search of some new interesting messages, and saw your, and couldn't resist posting one Re: -:) So, here it is, since I'm also interested in joining AF, and since I did read lots of stuff, here's an advice from (un) qualified person - your mom is 110% right! No disrespect to enlisted people, but if you're on a way to graduate, you should go for it! And, you can hardly be too old! (Start worrying when you're more than 30!) That is, if you don't wanna be pilot/nav., they have a little bit more strict entry requ. 25 - 27 and a half with age waiver. Now, what is age (or any other) waiver? It's a great utility which lets you enter when you are little bit older than the "right" age, there are people who joined when they were 35 (and more?) Anyway, you can't be too old... it depends what exactly you want to do? What job or career is of interest? Yes,a good idea is to talk to recruiter, they are qualified to tell you all you'd like to know, BUT, be aware, some of them are more concerned about how to get you in (and they DO try to make it all sound GREAT!!!), you should try to contact some people who're in your career field, and talk to them, it's always a good way to find out a real situation... Besides, you don't sound too enthusiastic about joining, and, you must be 100% sure it's what you want... once your in, it may not be so easy to get out in case you change your mind... So, hmm, does this make any sence? Anyway, if there is something you'd like to ask me, feel free to e-mail me, I do have some helpful info... Good luck in whatever you decide!

Chances are you will definitely not like basic training (no one does until it is over), you might not even like tech school. I would suggest that you go in as enlisted, then later if you wish you can apply for OCS. I have a cousin (male) who received a battle field commission, he says he regrets taking the commission, he liked being enlisted much better, after becoming an officer there were greater restrictions and responsibility. I was in for 6 yrs. and have never regretted a day of my service time, my regret is getting married and not being able to stay in. A base is like a small town where you get to know just about everyone, and there is every type of person. As well you learn dicipline that will carry you through many great problems you will face in the future. You can always continue your education while in the service. To me there are more advantages to being in the military than there are being a civilian. If you would like to e-mail me with questions, please feel free to do so.
